Hello I have a question that I have been dealing with for the last few months, Here is the thing. I almost lost my Mother this Christmas. She was a heavy smoker drinker and so forth. didn’t give much regard to God eventhough she used to be a devout Catholic. Ok fast foward to now. She is making a full recovery and all. I was traveling around the country making decent money and was working for my Father. My Father is my best friend. He is still traveling and my mother cannot travel for she is still needing many months of physical therapy. I was working in Rapid City riding and training grand prix dressage horses. Now the hospital in Rapid couldn’t take her. So I resigned my position and moved to eastern SD she is going to move in with me so she can have the help she needs for a while. My problem is a twofold deal.
One thing is, I am very lonely and need friends. the second is after this bout it finaly hit my on the head the reality that if I live long enough I will lose both parents. Yes I know that we will lose them eventually. I started thinking what would I do how do I get through it all. I don’t need them financially don’t get me wrong, But no one loves me as much, as they do. I feel at times I rather die than lose them. How do I get through this lonliness.

I lost both of my parents. What kept be up was the knowing that they will rise again and they both had their Last Rites. Nothing is as important as that.

Over time, I came to realize that EVERYTHING in this life is TEMPORAL. That, by itself is not very comforting.

But what is amazingly uplifting is the KNOWING that DEATH IS TEMPORAL TOO. Jesus OVERCAME death and so will we…through Him.

We heard all our lives how short life is but we never hear how short Death is. That should be emphasized much more so.

I believe if one walks with God he/she is given the Wisdom to see things that are more discerning than our carnal existance allows/

I am so sorry for all you have been and are going through. I also applaud you for what you’ve done for your mom.:clapping: Remember that He is taking care of you. Your responsibility is to do what you know to do and to love, respect and trust Him. Anxiety is never from God. Take one step at a time. When you aren’t tending to your mom’s needs then do something to take care of yourself (one thing at a time - looking at all groups at parishes near you, places to volunteer, etc), then trust in Him. Constantly repeat to yourself “Jesus, I trust in You.”

I know what you mean. Our parents do love us very much and it is hard to lose them. I lost my mom first, 20 years before my dad. I lost dad last year and wondered like you, what it would be like if I lost him. Well, it is hard at first, but dad got cancer and he suffered a lot in the end, so it was not hard for me to let him go to God. I knew he was with God and no longer suffering and He was taking good care of him. I asked God every day to help me get through it when dad got sick, and I did take it one day at a time. Yes, God does listen and will help you. I miss dad, but I feel that he and mom are near, so it is a comfort to me.

You will get through it because God understands and you can lean on him for support and comfort.

Blessings

no need to ever feel lonely, child. remember that as the Father loves the Son, the Son loves us. this is truth. this love is unmeasureable and non ending.

some have referred to this love as the Holy Spirit.

much blessings.

Hi “scooby”. I just wanted to remind you of something that you probably already know. That there IS Someone Who loves you as much as your parents. In fact, He loves you (and your parents… and me… and everyone in the world) MUCH MORE than we will ever be able to comprehend.

His Name is Jesus.

I don’t know your age… but your words kind of reminded me of myself, when I was younger. You said that you and your dad are close. I was very close to my dad, too. He and I had a common interest in horses. I was a competition rider, when I was younger. We shared a great love of horses, and a close father-daughter bond that is still very much alive.

Yes, the bond I had with my dad is alive. But guess what. My Dad, died in 1988. He has been gone for nearly 20 years. Was it painful to lose him? Sure. Do I still miss him? Yes.

How do I cope with it? Faith in Jesus. I know that as close as my dad and I were… that there is NO love, which equals that of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. And He loves each of us… as if we were the ONLY human being in the world. Jesus loves and values you… as if you were the SOLE member of humanity! This is the way He loves all of us. Awesome!

My advice to you… is to love and cherish your parents, while they are with you. Store up all the wonderful memories you can. I am currently doing the same, with my mother… who is nearly 86. I know that she won’t be with me for too much longer. But when the Lord calls her Home… I know that I will be OK. Because I have tried to be the best child I could be, to both my parents. And most of all… I know that Our Lord Jesus loves me. And His Love… will see me through… till the end of my own life.

Which will be only the beginning! God bless you. 🙂

I lost my Father to cancer in 2000 and my Mother to cancer at the end of 2004. I’m an only child. Even though we weren’t a demonstrative family due to the way they were raised (almost no hugs/kisses and no “I love yous”), it was understood that we loved each other. No one on earth loved me as much as they did, in their own way. At the time I lost them, I had not yet returned to the Catholic Church. Their loss left huge holes in the center of my being. I’m married but we had been having some troubles at the time and I was almost unbearably lonely.

When I returned to the Church, I realized that no matter what, I’m never alone unless I choose to be. Jesus is truly always with me unless I tell Him I don’t want him there. I still miss both of them but Mom especially since she was my best friend. Memories of her last month while I took care of her here in our home until the day she died still haunt me sometimes too. When I’m feeling really bad, I pray the Memorare to ask Mary, our heavenly Mother, for peace. She never fails to help me and to remind me that Her Son is with me always. And, I feel much better.

You still have your parents. Do as much as you can with them and for them - you seem to be doing that. Remember they hopefully will be going home to God one day. Yes, it will probably be bad and you’ll miss them. But remember, “Be not afraid.” Pray for them and love them and remember Jesus is with you always as long as you don’t send Him away.

:gopray2: Praying for you and your parents
