Long story, and a request for prayers

Ok, for those of you who know. A short recap.
My wife gave birth to our fifth a month ago.
We have moved across country a couple of years ago and do not like our current location.
Our parish back home was a MESS and involved a huge scandal about the time we left.
But our friends and family are all “back home”

So we decided to travel back and baptize our daughter and let the family see her.

We made this trip at the 3 week old milestone.

My wife flew with the baby and I drove 1800 miles to our hometown with 4 kids. 2 days before we left my wife got violently ill. It got better and we decided to make the trip. I drove her to the airport and then took off with the kids. All of whom got sick on the drive. 17 hours one day, 11 the next…
Baptism was an oddity (there is another thread for that) But then a couple days later my wife had a really bad back ache. So bad that she could not sit through Mass. Later that night it got so bad I took her to the emergency room. We were sure it was a kidney or gall stone. Nope, it was a blood clot in her lung. And it could have killed her. We are so blessed to even have her with us right now. And it turns out that we were blessed to be around friends and family that helped with the kids and offered support (something we would not have had in our current location) She had amazing medical care and we were fortunate to have that as well. But this last week or so has been very emotional and now that we are back at our house, we are just trying to process it. So far as we can tell she will be ok and it can be treated safely. But it has changed our focus. It has made us want to move back home faster than we have anticipated. It has made “I love you” a very common phrase right now (it was before) And it has made us all frequent confession more often. It has worried me and scared me and it has brought the correct things into focus.
Pray for us. Pray for our continued health, for my wife to find a good job closer to where we want to be and for our strength through this.

Praise God. I think I know that roller coaster you were on. We’ve been on it a few times. And each time I get just a little bit closer to God and my loved ones. Little annoyances that used to drive me crazy have become “oh well”. Currently going through a crisis with my 42 yr. old daughter. I am amazed and grateful for the peace and joy He has given me. Just think, if God hadn’t brought me through the other challenges, I wouldn’t be here to care for my daughter. God is Good. All the Time.

Having moved far away from my real home for no particular reason, and now regretting it with a passion, I completely understand the pain and longing.

I’m glad things are on the mend. May you be home soon. Where ever that might be.

Wow, I can’t imagine how I would get through that. The angels must be on your side.

O God, who gave your servant Tobias the holy archangel Raphael for a companion on his journey, grant that during our earthly pilgrimage we may always be protected by his watchful care and strengthened by his help.

I will certainly keep all of you in my prayers.

We well understand how hard it is to be far from family. Because of the extreme scarcity in any given region of jobs for my husband (TV news anchor/writer/reporter) we have lived 1500 miles from family for virtually all of our married lives. (40 years now.) We had sporadic help from parents and in-laws when our girls were born, but that was rare, and brief. It’s pretty much been just us.

We are thrilled that one daughter and her family are here in town, at least for another year or two, and our other daughter and family are only 3 hours away, and we get together often. Where we retire will be dependent upon where they all are at the time (grandchildren involved, and we want to be within a reasonable distance of them.)

I hope and pray that a suitable job opens up close to home for you. Believe me, I understand.

O most loving Jesus, Who by Thy sublime and beautiful virtues of humility, obedience, poverty, modesty, charity, patience and gentleness, and by the example of Thy domestic life, didst bless with peace and happiness the family Thou didst choose on earth, in Thy clemency look down upon this household, humbly prostrate before Thee and imploring Thy mercy. Remember that this family belongs to Thee; for to Thee we have in a special way dedicated and devoted ourselves. Look upon us in Thy loving kindness; preserve us from danger; give us help in time of need, and grant us the grace to persevere to the end in the imitation of Thy Holy Family; that having revered Thee and loved Thee faithfully on earth, we may bless and praise Thee eternally in heaven.

Back in October my husband was complaining that his ribs hurt and that he couldn’t take a deep breath. We thought it was just a pulled muscle because he had been working on a dryer a few days prior. One night he came in and said take me to the ER. It was that bad. Five blood clots. Two one one side, three on the other. He spent three days in the hospital. He spent three months not working because of his jobs physical policy about not driving a vehicle after being diagnosed with clots. It’s been difficult.We had to deal with this pretty much on our own. Most of our family lives at least 3 hrs away. But he is fine-we are fine. It was tough on my girls, 16 yrs, 19 yrs, 22 yrs. For a bit I thought it had changed his outlook on things…getting a bit closer to God etc but nah, he’s still the same. Or I should say on the outside he is the same. He hasn’t talked much. Well, I cant really say that. He has been a bit more nice and a bit less harsh on some matters 🙂 We are all grateful to God for the outcome. Glad things are good for you too
