Most Christian denominations have much longer services. In some more fundamentalist denominations, as well as African American churches, there is more than one service, and it’s pretty much an all-day commitment.
Yep. That was every Sunday of my youth.

Huh, I thought of another contender:

Last spring when I coincidentally attended the First Communion Mass for our 2nd graders.
Who had been rehearsed and coached so that

Probably the Paschal Vigil in 1989 or 1990. It was probably about 3 - 3.5 hours. Our former pastor read the Gospel (John 1:1-17) in Latin, Greek, Slavonic, Ukrainian and English - AND you had to stand for ALL 5 Gospels!

Outside of that, probably SingCon 2019:

Vespers was very long and so was the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday but it was fantastic! See you in Philadelphia this October!

A 3 1/2 hour Divine Liturgy in an Eastern-rite Church. It was the Liturgy of St. Basil, used only on special feast days, I believe.

The consecration of a Cathedral restoration was over 3 hours.

Today, St. Basil’s feast day, one of those occasions.

The Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great is also prayed on the Sundays of the Great Fast.

It is prayed in combination with Vespers on Holy Thursday, Holy Saturday, Christmas Eve and the Eve of Theophany. These liturgies can run very, very long.

Fellow Byzantines, did I miss any?

For me it was the rite of Election that is one of the longest because of it being an hour away at the main cathedral in the city an hour from where I live.

WOW. Ad multos annos to your cousin!

I don’t time them, but among the longest would be
  • Papal Mass with Pope JPII - or it might have just seemed long because we had to be in the stadium about 4-5 hours before Popey’s plane even landed and about 5 hours before he even arrived in the Popemobile
  • Easter Vigil with a bunch of catechumens getting admitted at the Cathedral

Easter vigil, we generally have about 35 coming into full communion. Mass is about 2 1\2 hours.

I’ve also attended an ordination mass. I didn’t time it nor do I remember how long it took.

The actual longest mass? Not sure, but the one that FELT the longest was actually a few years ago during the Feast of Mary Mother of God, Long story but turns out the only mass I could make it to was an evening spanish mass. The church thermostat must have been set at 85* and I didn’t understand a word of the 45 minute homily. That mass felt like it was 6 hours long lol

Christmas Eve was three hours for me, but that included a 30 minute prelude of some lovely carols and hymns.

Easter Vigil, though, was the longest Mass I’ve ever attended…totally takes the cake, at clocking in at four hours. Absolutely everything was chanted and each portion (baptisms, Paschal candle blessing, water blessing, procession of the cross, etc.) was very slowly and methodically performed. It really puts you in such a contemplative and serene mindset for such a beautiful season.

Was probably a Good Friday mass, with all the dialogue included.
