Do you ever have those days when you feel so alone? I had one of those days today. I know it will pass quickly as it always does but today sure did drag on. It is days like this that I long for a relationship more than others.

Yes, the lonely days are hard. But like cloudy days, they pass. Its only a matter of weathering through them.

I find the internet helps - either it distracts or it gives some kind of (limited) conversation.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling lonely! I have those days every once in a while, usually after I’ve spent a day with my married friends and their kids and I have to come home to an empty house. I like to think that eventually, times like that will a) make me more grateful when I do have a family of my own and b) not seem so bad in retrospect when family life seems difficult or hectic.

I see that you also posted on this thread a few days ago:

I’ve been praying for everyone who posted there, including you! I’m sure that the Lord hears our prayers and His answer will come when the time is right. In the meantime, I hope you take some comfort knowing that you’re not alone in your lonlieness! :grouphug:

Yes, I have definitely been having those days…and my position is a little different than yours, being divorced and waiting for an annulment.

What I am trying to do is spend more “quality” time with my kids, listening to them and doing the kinds of things together with them that they are interested in.

I’m a totally shy person too…and after spending the last decade and a half in the kind of marriage where I was not really allowed to spend too much time with friends, basically kind of isolated, I am making the effort to sort of step outside of my shell and interact with a variety of different friends. It’s interesting how once I made up my mind to actually go out and do that, how many people are approaching me as a friend and asking me to go do this or that.

Really though when the loneliness is so bad that it just about makes me feel like I am dying, I pray the rosary and if at all possible I go to adoration. There is so much peace to be found there. Don’t ever forget just how much you are loved by God, and then you will know in your heart that you really never are alone. I was thinking today at adoration that Christ knew what it felt like to be abandoned by some of those that he was closest to, like they didn’t truly know his value. But he will never abandon us. He is there with us when we are most truly alone. Even if we can’t feel it, just that thought that he is there with us and values who we are, well that is pretty comforting.

Absolutely, it IS hard, and some days are more difficult than others.

I am also continuing in prayer for both of you, and for all of us who posted on the previous thread.

Dulcissima, I was actually trying to type something along this line, couldn’t get the words right, and gave up. Then, after I finished my post, I saw yours … you said it so much better than I could’ve 🙂

Contemplating Christ in his agony in the garden of Gethsemane always humbles me … “Could you not watch with me one hour?” … contemplating this just breaks my heart. Who among us has known loneliness equal to His?

You all are so kind! I don’t know why I was so bothered today. Maybe because I have been so busy I didn’t know what to do with myself with nothing much to do today. Also after Mass I kinda felt it. I sit with wonderful friends, but they all have families. So they all walk with their kids and spouses to their cars and me alone to mine. Normally it doesn’t bother me, but for some reason today I felt it. Your suggestions were all great. I do get on the internet because it can be distracting and I am not much of a t.v. watcher. I also like the idea of praying the Rosary during these times. Thanks again for your support - it is nice to know I am not alone 🙂 .

I find myself feeling lonely when I’m stressed over a problem or situation that I have to solve. I pray to the Father and Jesus all the time but it would be nice to converse with someone in person. Talking to friends helps to a point but the longing remains. In God’s timing my prayers get answered and I feel better. I also find exercising helps.

I’ve been feeling very alone lately, as I am battling one of those health problems that isn’t life-threatening, or serious enough to require a hospital or surgery, but is enough to curtail most of one’s usual activites. All I have in this house are my cats, and nobody to help if I have a really bad spell. 😦

Hi Carol,

I had to write because I really identified with what you wrote! I am 32 and adopted two cats last year. I have to say, it has made a world of difference, and I feel a lot less alone than I did before. My cats bring me a lot of joy and are great company! But alas, they aren`t human. The good thing is they listen without talking back! LOL.

The great thing about CAF is that it reminds us we are not alone. We have our electronic family.

When I feel really alone, I often think of Jesus hanging on the cross–completely abandoned by all of his friends. Also, as others have stated, the rosary is a wonderful cure when you are feeling completely alone.

I will keep everyone in my prayers.

Sincerely,

Maria1212
