Looking for a Bible

Could anyone point me to a Catholic Bible that has the Greek and English translations on facing pages? I saw one on a website somewhere when I was looking for a Catholic sweatshirt for my husband’s birthday present, but haven’t been able to find that site again. My husband was excited about the idea of seeing the text in both languages, so I really wanted to get it for him.

If we can’t find one of these, I guess I’ll try to find a Douay Rheims translation. He grew up with the KJV, so that would also work for him.

I don’t know if this is quite what you’re looking for, but if you go to the Biblia Clerus website, you can download the Hebrew, Latin Greek, English, and more versions of the Bible and look at them side-by-side. It also has great commentary too.

As far as a printed version, I’m not sure I can help you. I know they’re out there, but I’m not sure what the best one might be. Sorry!

I have an interlinear NT which utilizes an extremely formal equivalence style of translation. I barely crack it open since I happen to only need to view the Greek when on the computer, and there are several websites which offer me the chance to explore possible meanings of the text. Aside from the interlinear NT, I don’t know of any other Bible available which offer what you’re looking for. An entire Bible (OT and NT) containing both Greek and English would venture somewhere close to 5000+ pages, which is not only impractical from a buyer’s standpoint but insane from a publisher’s standpoint.

Oh, and I really don’t recommend the Douay-Rheims. It is the favorite of many people here…but it has a lot to be desired. I would personally rather own a NKJV with Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha rather than a Douay-Rheims anyday (which is funny since I own a Douay-Rheims but not the former ) You may be interested in The Orthodox Study Bible: the Old Testament is based on the Septuagint and NKJV, the New Testament is NKJV, and contains many articles which illumine our faith from patristic sources.

I am most definitely getting one and making it my second preferred English Bible.

well the New Jerusalem Bible (NJB) is translated from the original texts, to… French, I think, and then to English (or from the originals to English, I’m not sure) but either way, it is particularly beautiful, and is also Catholic, and also, it has lots of really cool footnotes! Great for prayer and studying.

I don’t like the KJV (King James Version), partly because it has just been, by that point, filtered through many translations, and it has just lost a lot of meaning for me, and it is primarily a protestant/Mormon bible, so even on the surface, it rings ‘not Catholic’ for me.
