Looking for a Catholic "version"

A friend recommended a book to me.

It’s called. Know Why You Believe… Connecting Faith and Reason.

It’s written by Paul E. Little…

It’s an awesome read…and an easy read…(just 150 pages) From creation , to miracles…etc… However, it’s not Catholic, and well, in that respect it leaves out a few key components… (that is from a Catholic perspective.)

I would love to find a book that is all encompassing from a Catholic perspective.

The author of this book discusses how he has converted several atheists, and people that otherwise were refusing that Christianity is THE way. He offers historical facts as his evidence…

My husband is not Catholic, but a believer in a higher power. (He’s Native American and was not raised in a church environment) It was fun to read him parts of this, and watch his brain click and grind. Things he just couldn’t refute. He’s a solid history buff. I’d really like to bring this to him in a Catholic format… He has a hard time with my insistence that the Catholic Church is the TRUE church… Granted, I’m inclined to read this book to him… and then fill him in on the “rest” at the end…

Anyhow… if you could guide me to a Catholic version I would really appreciate it.

I can’t answer your question, but I can say that this book won’t help your husband’s view of the Church.

I read reviews at Amazon.com and understand there is a fair amount of misinformation. Among the more glaring errors includes the “fact” that Catholics added to the Bible. That error could lead your husband to question the truth of our Church. Reviewers also talk about other historical inaccuracies.

The rest might be great, I don’t know, but be sure your husband is clear on any Catholic misinformation.

I would recommend the book “reasons to bealive” by Scott Hahn. It’s great for people who don’t bealive in a higher power and for those who are not in communion with the Church.

Also I just finished readion “Catholocism for dummies” by Fr. Trigillio. This book is amazing! It’s very basic, but contains so much of the Church that makes so much sence. It also has the Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur, these are official declarations that a book or pamplet if free of doctrinal or moral error.

Im not sure if you are looking for a catholic apologetics book or a Catholic version of “The case for Christ”. It sounds like your husband is a believer but has some concerns with Catholic beliefs. A good book that explains Catholic vs protestant beliefs is " Catholicism and fundamentalism" by Karl Keating. He is the president of Catholic answers. It is well written and concise. I found it to be very helpful.

I haven’t looked at the book in a couple years, but there’s a book called “Why I am Catholic” by Pulitzer Prize winner, Garry Wills. He’s not always your mainline Catholic, but he is enthusiastic in his own way.

Whatever you do, be patient with your husband, and be a good example to him.

Yes, Know Why you Believe is lacking from a Catholic Perspective… But an excellent start if you just can’t wrap your brain around Christ (of course I say that never having taken issue with what I’ve been taught about Christ.)

But, I’d rather get a Catholic book…
