So on my journey to conversion I am conscious that my Bible reference bookshelf is skewed to the Anglican and Protestant. I’m looking for a Study Bible using a translation approved by the Bishops Conference of England and Wales (http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Resources/Scripture/Versions.shtml) - so JB, NJB, NRSV or RSV.

The only ones I’ve found are the NRSV Harper Collins one, which doesn’t use the Catholic Edition (although it does have all the books) and doesn’t have many Catholic scholars, the NJB Study Edition which isn’t really a Study Bible - it just has some extra helps etc, and the Ignatius Study New Testament - not the whole Bible.

As well as a Study Bible I would like a commentary series that also uses one of these translations.

Thanks for any help!

There are a lot of threads about Catholic Bible translations/recommendations if you do a quick search. I would recommend the Didache Bible version in the RSV-2CE for you as a starting point, perhaps. Here are a couple of threads with good info.

Updating your Bible Sacred Scripture
Hey guys! Need some thoughts. I have a NAB with the regrettably bad footnotes, but I have used this since the night I came back to Christ 5/6 years ago. So there are a lot of notes and memories packed in it. But on the other hand, I find that I enjoy the older language found in a DR Bible much better, so I’m strongly considering updating to something like that, though I’m not sure if I could find one with many footnotes. So, have you guys ever updated Bibles? And if so, why? Discuss!

Value of Ignatius edition Sacred Scripture
I solicit your opinion on the subject of the Ignatius Version of Scripture. Is it reliably orthodox? ETA Ignatius Bible, RSV-CE.

Hi. Thanks for the reply! What I’m really looking for is a proper study Bible - with line by line commentary etc - in a CBCEW approved translation. I looked through the threads and couldn’t find anything specific to that.

I haven’t seen any Catholic Bible with line by line commentary, but the Ignatius Study New Testament is very good and pretty thorough. I’ve heard the Navarre Bible commentary highly recommended but I haven’t seen it myself. I’m not sure of either of these would be approved by the CBCEW. I hope you find what you’re looking for! There is a real shortage of good Catholic study aids, I think.
