Any ideas on finding a good bible study program online or in book form?

I strongly recommend the Navarre Study Bibles. You can get the whole New Testament in one book (I am not for sure if the old testament is complete at this time and compiled as one volume or not). It uses the NRSV translation, which I think is the best modern English translation available. The notes and commentary are very well thought out.

amazon.com/Navarre-Bible-New-Testament-Expanded/dp/1594170754/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493233447&sr=8-1&keywords=navarre+bible

Its not cheap, but it is very good. It shows on amazon a price available somewhere of $73. IIRC, I paid around $60 a few years back at our local catholic bookstore.

I’m partial to the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible from Ignatius Press. They’ve only published the NT so far, but it’s still incredibly useful. I’ve heard the Navarre is good as well, though I haven’t personally used it.

Thanks a lot.

I have the Ignatius NRSV Bible, which has pretty nice foot notes. What I’m really looking for is something along the lines of Jimmy Akin’s Commentary on Mark… Something really in depth and rich.

Haven’t seen Jimmy Atkin’s work you mention, so I can’t give you a comparison. I do think the Navarre bible is pretty in depth. A typcal page will have maybe the top 30% be the scripture itself, followed by a very small font latin translation (the Vatican’s 1986 New Vulgate). The bottom 1/2 to 2/3’s is the commentary. The commentary is not meant to be technical from a scholarly exegesis point of view, but meant to “explain the Biblical text and to identify its main points, the message God wants to get across through the sacred writers. It also deals with doctrinal and practical matters connected to the texts” (quoted from the preface)

I have also used the Ignatius study Bible, it is also very good. I would say not quite as much depth as the Navarre.

Here ya go…

agapebiblestudy.com

it has references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church as any decent Catholic Bible study should and it is endorsed by Dr. Scott Hahn.

It is free.

You can read it online or print out the lessons and handouts at your leisure. I don’t think they have all the books done yet but there is plenty that will keep you busy.

Oh and it’s free.

My other suggestion would be the Catholic Commentary On Sacred Scripture series but you have to purchase them. Worth it though.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. Looks pretty good. Adding to my list of Catholic websites. Up to 9 now.

Thank you, this looks awesome!

Definitely what I was looking for!

I think it might be worthwhile to look at out of print books, like on abe books. Most of the still in print studies I’ve perused haven’t really impressed me.
