I was wondering if you guys could help me out on this.

I’ve been looking for a good small/pocket sized Catholic Bible. While there’s plenty of Protestant Bibles where I live it’s hard to find Catholic Bibles. If anyone could point out a good smaller Bible they have that would be great. Could you also provide some dimensions just so I have a general idea of it’s size. A lot of bookstores online do not list it’s dimensions.

And for the curious, I’m just looking for a smaller Bible that’s easier for me to transport than the more standard sized Bibles.

I appreciate everyones help. 🙂 👍

Respectfully,
Mark

Oh… and I forgot to mention. If you could point out one that can take a beating from all the transportation that would be great, too. 🙂

Any of the Oxford Press, Scepter, or Ignatius Press Compact RSV:CE’s are deceptively good. 🙂 They are all identical in contents, so just find the best price and the cover type that you like, and go with it. You won’t be disappointed.

Edit: Here is the one that I suggest. I own it myself, and it would suit your needs well: isbn.nu/9780195288537/shipover/

If you like the Douay-Rheims, Baronius Press makes a nice compact Bible. The type is small, but I’m a 54 year old geezer and I wear glasses anyway, and I don’t have any trouble reading it.

They have switched from morocco leather to bonded leather, which is stiffer. I don’t know what kind of beating you plan on giving it, but it would probably fair just as well as any other.

Its dimensions are about 4" by 6". I’d guess it to be about 1.5 to 1.75 inches thick. It’s not exactly pocket-sized, but it’s pretty small. The page signitures are sewn together instead of glued, so given the proper care it should last a lifetime or two.

It’s also got some Papal Encyclicals which I found very interesting.

I got mine from allcatholicbooks.com.

They did what? Real leather is so much better.

Amen to that!

When I took the shrink wrap off the Bible and noticed the telltale savour of bonded leather, I sent Baronius Press an email. They affirmed that they had switched to bonded leather because it was getting increasingly difficult to get Morocco, and they had also received some reports of issues with the gold stamping on Morocco. Some of their vendors had not yet changed the descriptions to indicate that bonded had been exchanged for Morocco.

Still, I consider the $37.50 that I paid for it to be a fair price, and I’ve really been enjoying it. On nights when I know I will not be very busy at work, I have put this Bible, the Daily Missal and the Baronius edition of *The Imitation of Christ * inside the Bible cover that I normally use to carry my wide-margin NKJV, and they all fit perfectly!

I do not know if they have switched to bonded leather for the Daily Missal as well.

I am thrilled with my Ignatius RSV pocket size, about 4x6 which is bigger than my pockets, but still smaller than anything else. I got the brown one with the leather zipper cover, it is holding up well and goes everywhere with me, lives in a bag in my car. I have a pocket size NAB but they insist on printing the notes which makes it too thick and who needs them. If I want notes I will buy a big study bible. for travel I still use a Confraternity NT not much bigger than an index card, easy to read, very litewt, which is a feature for me when I travel. I already have psalms in shorter Christian prayer, so it is all I need for travel.

“that the Morocco has been exchanged for bonded” 😉

This is a crisis. We must protest. 😛
