The anticipation causes more anxiety than the event. It will be so good to hear “…and I absolve you…”

peace

There would definitely be added purification there, if the priest knows you quite well.
My confessor knows me quite well…and I have confessed a few things that I thought would affect our friendship. We still are friends, see each other often…it never phased him one bit what I confessed.

Sounds a lot like a few medical procedures I had to have done last year. Luckily Jesus, and Our Lady was with me!

Yes, a screen is present. My parish offers face-to-face, or the screen. My biggest problem is, I work closely with all of the priests at my parish to the point where one of them identifies me by name in the confessional.
try to go to other parish, I guess it’s okay

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for a little advice. I don’t find it difficult to go to confession, but I have something I’d like to confess. I’ve heard that once you confess some things, you can begin the healing process. Have any of you had a difficult time confessing something that you found to be extremely embarrassing? How did you overcome the embarrassment, and finally confess the sin? There are a few other people I could ask this, but I wanted to unbiased opinions from you great folks. Thank you in advance for helping. God Bless!
I have been in this situation myself,

On your next confession - right after you say, " bless me father for I have sinned, it has been (however long ) since my last confession…" pause to tell the priest that you have a sin that you find difficult to confess because it’s so embarassing to you.

Priests are very well prepared for these kind of situation and have methods of making the process a little more bearable. Trust in the Lord and His priest, that you will do a good confession. Go with a humble and contrite heart and your confession will be good.

God Bless and protect you my friend. Be brave.

I generally find it’s easier to confess to a priest from another parish, that doesn’t know me, and I don’t see on a regular basis, especially in cases like that. If that sounds like it will work for you, you should look for a reconciliation service, because there are usually several priests hearing confessions.

Be brave…go to your priest.

Yes it would be easier to go to an unknown priest in some other parish - however, the efficacy of the elements of pennance, humility and contrition are softened in your mind - you no longer equate the gravity of your sin with the difficulty of confessing to your priest.

Going elsewhere may make it easier on you but (I know this from experience) you’ll feel like you got away with something because “that priest” doesn’t know you and the elements of humility and contrition are watered down. It will be easier to fall again if you think that confession will be easy each time.

Your priest knows you and can better advice you in your life of prayer and life of the spirit.

Priests are incredibly understanding. Sometimes, the priest I’m confessing to hardly touches the sin I was dreading confessing, and other times, when he talks about it, asks about it, gives advice, he’s always incredibly understanding and practical and loving about it. It’s horrible agony having the weight on your shoulders, so if it helps, just think about how nice it will be to not carry it anymore! Praise Jesus and give him much thanks for His suffering so we could have this relief!

It seems you might have gotten to confession this weekend? Maybe? If yes, awesome! Hope you’re enjoying the grace. 🙂 If not, my prayers are with you! Be strong!
