A good all-around bible would be the Little Rock Catholic Study Bible.
It has both study notes as well as little prayer guides within it. I’m not the biggest fan of the NAB-RE translation or the standard NAB-RE notes, but the extras in the LRCSB more than make up for its deficiencies. Plus, I think the NAB-RE translation is a bit easier to read than some of the more formal translations (Douay, RSV), and the New Testament readings will be essentially identical to what you hear at mass (the Old Testament was updated in the NAB-RE, but the updates haven’t made it to the Mass lectionary).
My recommendation is to see if you can check out a copy of any Bible before you purchase to check and see if you like the features and the translation. If you own library doesn’t carry it, they may be able to get it through inter-library loan. Or, someone at the parish (or the parish itself) may have copies you can borrow. I like doing this because I’m poor and don’t like spending monies on a Bible safari (with the exception of finding under $5 copies at Goodwill - don’t mind spending that and if I don’t like, re-donating back to the store).
Generally, ordering site-to-store through Walmart’s website offsets some of the expense of getting one (if that is a major consideration). It comes in paperback and hardback (the limited edition leather cover appears to be no longer available). Since it was first published in 2011, the odds of finding a copy in the local Goodwill or used bookstore isn’t good yet.
