I am looking for an image, photographic or artistic, of a brown or black skinned person confessing to a Catholic priest in any of the Byzantine Churches. I want to use it in a guide to Confession. I have images of clerics, monastics, laity, young, middle aged, and old, but I don’t have any diversity in the images when it comes to race or physical ability. The images allow the reader to see himself in the depiction so I want to be sure to show the widest variety of people.

An Orthodox source would be acceptable if those depicted would approve of the image being used in a publication by a Catholic. There is nothing that would come close to concerning from an Orthodox standpoint other than that.

If you know of an image that would help or would be willing to take a photograph or paint/draw an image to be used, please contact me.

Why does the color of their skin even matter?
All of us should be able to have access to images of people who look like us participating in the life of the church. The images allow the reader to see himself in the depiction so I want to be sure to show the widest variety of people.

Fair enough. Though I don’t have any pictures myself. Perhaps you could try your hand at this yourself? Friends of yours confessing, etc.

That’s all right, but I honestly don’t even notice the color of the skin of people on the books I use for these kinds of things. It makes no difference to me.

I don’t know of any Eastern Catholics in South Africa. If you do, please point them out to me!

Are you in a majority where you live, so that you can take it for granted that people usually are depicted to look like you? People in the majority don’t usually notice or care. People who look different from the majority and rarely or never see people like them in print are more likely to notice the absence and to appreciate the presence. I don’t think we need to be silly about it, but when it comes to publications on the faith, I will make the effort to have the images depict our universality.
That’s wonderful! Thank you! Do you have access to a larger version that could be printed? Do you know who I need to ask permission from to use it?

I’m sorry, I never saw this reply until I came back to the thread to post a new picture. I don’t know anything about the picture that I originally posted. I just found it in a web search, and I couldn’t find it again when I went to search for it this morning. I returned to this thread to share this picture with you, though:
