I have a protestant friend who has a daughter that is turning 16. He asked me for help in finding a Saint for her because he would like to get her some type of medallion. I know your thinking, why would a protestant want to do that? Well, he is well versed in our faith (sometime more so than I 😊 ) and we have a very respectful relationship. And he really has only good intentions. Unfortunately, I can’t help him without some help from you.
I am just getting back into my faith and still have a LOT to learn. Of course feel foolish about that, but I am trying now.
Well, any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance!
Elizabeth

What about St. Therese of Lisieux (sp?)

She is a very popular saint and has a wonderful story.

Also, I’d recommend possibly maybe a Marian medal as well.

It depends on what this Protestant 16 year old accepts/knows of the Catholic faith. St. Francis of Assisi is usually popular with non-Catholics because of his connection to nature and animals. If she has a Marian interest there’s the Scapular Medal with the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side and the Madonna and Child (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) on the other. And the Miraculous Medal depicting Mary with ā€œO Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to theeā€ inscribed on it. Another nice idea might be a Rosary. Many non-Catholics pray the Rosary. And there’s St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower)–she was a Carmelite nun who died in her twenties and is a Doctor of the Church for teaching her ā€œLittle Way,ā€ which many non-Catholics also follow.

Good choice - that is what my daughter chose, almost 16, after reading about her she was inspired.

I definitely agree that Saint Maria Goretti and St. Therese of Lisieux are excellent choices

At about that age, my daughter chose St Philomena.
There is a wonderful tape/CD on her story and there is also a medal that you can purchase.

I even think there is a place in League City, TX that has information and medals, etc. Where are you in Texas?

Or stick with a saint she would be more familiar with if that makes her more comfortable.

I would see if I could find either a Sacred Heart or Divine Mercy medal; I would think that’s a more ecumenical thing to do.

Also, St. Jude always has a special place in my heart.

He’s only a blessed, but how about Per Giorgio Frassati? He was handsome, athletic and loyal to his friends and family. He was also deeply devoted to God and served the poor. I have a picture of him on my office wall - I would loved to have known him.
