I’m looking for some books that would be a good introduction to the life and writings of Pope St. John Paul II. Nothing horribly heavy at this point but not overly simplistic either.
I highly recommend the book “St. John Paul the Great…His Five Loves”, by Jason Evert.I’m looking for some books that would be a good introduction to the life and writings of Pope St. John Paul II. Nothing horribly heavy at this point but not overly simplistic either.
That’s a good one. I’d second that recommendation.I highly recommend the book “St. John Paul the Great…His Five Loves”, by Jason Evert.
In it I learned more about his personality and deep devotional life. Very inspiring! I have loaned it to others and they were ispired as well.
I can recommend both Weigel books (they form a chronological series) and the Evert book. Have not read Noonan. That’s a good one. I’d second that recommendation.
George Weigel wrote the quintessential biography of John Paul II in his two books Witness to Hope and The End and the Beginning. His books are lengthier and can be a bit heavier, though. So you may want to work up to them.
Peggy Noonan wrote a good, shorter book as well John Paul the Great.
That must be The Gift of Saint John Paul II: A Celebration of His Enduring Legacy.I can recommend both Weigel books (they form a chronological series) and the Evert book. Have not read Noonan.
Cardinal Wuerl wrote a book of commentaries on his Encyclicals. Forget the name, but if you want good info about his writings, this one is excellent.
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendations. I am currently reading Jason Evert’s book. A week after I posted this there was a huge used book sale in my area. Among other things, I came home with the Weigel books, Evert’s book, The Private Prayers of John Paul II and Raymond Arroyo’s books on Mother Angelica and still had change left over from a five dollar bill.
That’s the one, thanks!
