I’m going to be running a summer day camp for kids in a couple of weeks - the theme is “Days of Elijah.”

For each of the days, I’m highlighting one Carmelite Saint, in addition of course to St. Elijah, for a total of six.

What I need are some traditional prayers (meaning, prayers that the kids would possibly encounter in their travels elsewhere, as well as at our little camp) either written by or directed to each of the Saints - they are:

St. Elijah
St. Teresa of Avila
St. John of the Cross
St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)
St. Therese de Lisieux
St. Simon Stock

Thanks for any help! 🙂

What a wonderful theme! 🙂 Here you go:

St. Elijah:

Almighty, ever-living God, your prophet Elijah lived always in Your presence and was zealous for the honor due to Your name.
May we, Your servants, always seek Your face and bear witness to Your love. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

St. Teresa of Jesus:

Father, by Your Spirit You raised up St. Teresa of Jesus to show Your Church the way to perfection. May her inspired teaching awaken in us a longing for true holiness.
Grant this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

There’s also her famous “bookmark”:

"Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you.*
All things are passing; God never changes.

“Patience obtains all things.
He who possesses God lacks nothing:
*God alone suffices.”

St. John of the Cross:

O, St. John of the Cross, beg of our Lord for me the grace to embrace the Cross, accepting His Will for me in the joys and sufferings of life. Help me to grow closer to our Lord and serve others with His great love. Through your intercession, may we come to enjoy the beatific vision of OUr Heavenly Father with you and all who love Him. Amen.

and. . .

Lord, you endowed St. John of the Cross with a spirit of self-denial and a love of the cross. By following his example may we come to the eternal vision of your glory. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

and. . .

Mine are the heavens and *mine is the earth; mine are the people, the righteous are mine and mine are the sinners; the angels are mine and the Mother of God, and all things are mine; and God Himself is mine and for me, for Christ is mine and all for me. What then do you ask for and seek, my soul? Yours is all this, and it is all for you.
(From his Prayer of a Soul Taken in Love)

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein):

Lord, God of our fathers,
you brought Saint Teresa Benedicta
to the fullness of the science of the cross
at the hour of her martyrdom.
Fill us with that same knowledge; and, through her intercession, allow us always to seek after you, the supreme Truth, and to remain faithful until death
to the covenant of love ratified in the blood of your Son for the salvation of all men and women. We ask this through our Lord. *Amen.

St. Therese de Lisieux:

God our Father,
you have promised your kingdom
to those who are willing to become like little children.
Help us to follow the way of Saint Thérèse with confidence
so that by her prayers
we may come to know your eternal glory.
Grant this through our Lord. *Amen.
  • and her lovely homage to the Holy Face:
O Adorable Face of Jesus, the only Beauty that captivates my heart, deign to imprint in my your Divine Likeness so that you may behold the soul of your little bride without seeing Yourself in her.

St. Simon Stock:

Father,
you called St. Simon Stock to serve you
in the brotherhood of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Through his prayers
help us like him to live in your presence
and to work for man’s salvation.
Grant this through our Lord. *Amen.

Do let us know how it goes!

Wow, thank you - this is great!! :extrahappy:

I will certainly let you know how it goes - this is my first experience organizing a summer day camp - so far, everything is going very smoothly - then again, the kids have not yet entered the room. 😛

On second thought, these litanies might be a little much for a kids camp, but here they are anyway:) Best of luck!

Dave.

Thanks! Maybe I’ll put them out on a resource table, and kids who are interested can try them out at home. 🙂
