I have read that one of the reasons that people receive communion in the hand while standing is that European bishops requested this as kneeling appeared penitential and receiving in the mouth was undignified. This was never mandated by Vatican II or even mentioned.

I have also heard (from a reliable source) that the USCCB mandated that the norm for receiving communion in the diocese of the US is standing.

I am interested in where I can find official documentation of either view. I have seen numerous opinions (searching CAF) but have found no documentation. It is not mentioned in the GIRM and I was unable to find a document on the USCCB site, probably because I did not use the correct search paramaters.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answering my own question.

I found this if anyone else has the same question:
http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-wor...t/the-reception-of-holy-communion-at-mass.cfm

Seventh paragraph down has the declaration:

The General Instruction asks each country’s Conference of Bishops to determine the posture to be used for the reception of Communion and the act of reverence to be made by each person as he or she receives Communion. In the United States, the body of Bishops determined that Communion should be received standing, and that a bow is the act of reverence made by those receiving. These norms may require some adjustment on the part of those who have been used to other practices, however the significance of unity in posture and gesture as a symbol of our unity as members of the one body of Christ should be the governing factor in our own actions.
