Looking for good computer filter

My kids are at an age I need to get a filter on my computer. Any reliable ones out their? Do I need to pay for a service?
 
I’ve heard the bsafeonline is a good filter:

But I’m not talking from experience, I do not have a filter.

If I remember correctly, you can install this filter on up to 3 computers and the monthly fee is somewhere around $10-15.
 
I’ve heard good things about OpenDNS, but never used its filtering capabilities.

It’s free, can be used on mutliple computers and you don’t need to install software, just change a few settings on your computer(s)

How old are your children? Are looking just to block sites based on set criteria or are you also wanted to monitor browsing/im/email/myspace activity.
 
The best filter is having the computer in a public area and know what your kids are doing…
No filter is perfect!
And many can filter out legitimate sites.

I have 3 teenage boys (14 to 17), and I have never had a filter. If your kids have emails or facebook accounts, get their passwords and do random checks. If they refuse to give you the password, they lose computer privileges.

If they IM, set it to save the conversations in a file and then check those conversations.
 
My children are 14, 12, 10, and 5. I mainly want to filter out porn. Knowing human weakness, I would like to eliminate easy access.
 
I still suggest having the puter in a public area of the house and monitor what they do. Check the history regularly. Be aware of where they go.

We’ve had computers since my oldest was 5, and he is now 17. We’ve never had a filter, and he’s never found porn. I’ve always monitored where they surf, the games they play, and I’ve checked history regularly. The puter in also in the main part of our house. They now have facebook accounts, but I have their passwords, and they know I will randomly log in and check out their pages.

Filters, IMO, are not reliable.

Our computer is in the main part of the house but the reality is they can access it when we’re busy with other things. I monitor them and will in the future but I know they’re outsmarting me when it comes to being computer savy. I’ve noticed that the oldest likes her privacy even if she’s not doing anything inappropriate. So clearing the history on the computer would be easy. I am trying to form their consciences and morals, but concupiscence is strong, at least in my family. I’m trying to help them avoid the near occasion of sin.
 
We had the BSafe filter for over 2 years and loved it! You can filter out numerous categories (porn, weapons, hate, etc.), you can filter out specific websites because sometimes it may not come up as a problem on the filter but you personally don’t want it to come through, you can choose times of day for the internet to be completely blocked and inaccessible, you can turn off access to IM’s also and they won’t work. The best part: there are NO workarounds, trust me! Every website hit (including pop-up ads) is saved and is emailed to you once per week. It can also be accessed daily if you want. I think we paid $50 a year. I would recommend it to anyone.👍
