Looking For Handicapped Friendly Airline

My daughter will be flying my 86-year-old father up to Minneapolis, MN for one of his sister’s 90th birthday party.

They will be flying out of Milwaukee (as that is just as far as O’Hare but cheaper, $ roughly $10 cheaper) and the choices of airlines are: Midwest, Northwest, AirTran, Delta, American and United.

My father does not walk very well and uses a rollator (walker). So, he would need to use that at the airport and to board and leave the plane.

Which airline would be most handicapped friendly for my father?

Most airlines will provide transportation by motorized cart and/or wheelchairs if needed and if reserved before your flight.Call and inquire-Good Luck!

Look online and see what airliners they are using. Some of the smaller airliners are not easy to get into even if you are healthy. Don’t go on anything smaller than a 737 or MD 80. which are the largest airliners used for those short flights.

At that distance, have you looked into charter busses or other ground transport? If you add the time at security, and other hassles, the direct drive may be less stressing.

If you do fly, be sure to call the airlines and let them know your needs, also, ask them to explain everything that you need to do to make it a smooth trip.(like where to enter the terminal, what he can pack, what extra paper work you will need at security, etc.

Every airline had wheelchair assistance to the gate, and they can also have a skycap assist with the roller.

Your Travel Agent can request that for you…

If you use a travel agency, tell them about your father and they will notify the airline ahead of time and he will have every assistance in boarding and leaving the plane. The airlines are happy to help, but they appreciate a little advanced notice.
