Looking for info about St. Roman

Hi. I’m new here. I am pregnant with a boy and I am considering the name Roman. I have searched online for a few days and cannot come up with any information about Saint Roman. There are churches in the U.S. named after him and schools as well, but I can’t get any facts.

If anyone has any information about this St. please let me know…or point me in the right direction.

May I suggest that your “search” “Saint Romanus” “Roman” is a diritive of this name and the CE shows mutiple Saints so named:thumbsup:

***(1) A Roman martyr Romanus *is mentioned in the “Liber Pontificalis” (ed. Duchesne, I, 155) with three other ecclesiastics as companions in the martyrdom of St. Lawrence (10 August, 258). There is no reason to doubt that this mention rests upon a genuine ancient tradition. Like St. Lawrence Romanus was buried in the Catacomb of the Cyriaca on the Via Tiburtina. The grave of St.Romanus is explicitly mentioned in the Itineraries of the seventh century (De Rossi, “Roma sotterranea”, I, 178-9). In the purely legendary Acts of St. Lawrence, the ostiary Romanus is transformed into a soldier, and an account in accordance with this statement was inserted in the historical martyrologies and in the present Roman Martyrology, which latter places his feast on 9 August (cf. Duchfourcq, Les Gesta Martyrum romains", I, 201). **

Two immediately come to mind. They are on the Byzantine Calendar:
  1. St. Romanus/Romanos the Melodist. 1 October.
  2. St. Boris and Gleb, grandsons of St. Vladimir of Kievan Rus. They were named Romanos (Roman) and David in baptism, and are so referred to in the liturgical texts. 24 July.
