In my spiritual journey, I often end up using Google. I was looking for a way to approach the first couple of chapters of Genesis that paid more attention to what God wanted to say to us than getting bogged down in endless debates. I came across this post on monkshobbit.wordpress.com:

“Posted by Steve Brettell on November 20, 2010 at 11:36 pm
You know, the details of the creation story are not what’s important. This is emphasised in the Vatican statement about evolution. The important message in Genesis is that there is a Creator, the he created the world by his word, and that he cares for his creation.”

Does anyone know where Steve’s summary of the important message of Genesis is quoted/paraphrased from? A webpage address would be perfect if you have one.

Thank you.

Thank you. I think I’m looking for something a bit more specific though - or am I missing something? I’m looking less for a proclamation on evolution, and more for the redirection of attention to the reason the beginning of Genesis was written in the first place, showing the existence of a creator who creates by his word and cares for his creation.

Oh…I don’t know about that one. Hopefully someone else will have seen it.

Not with so many words, but the Humani Generis of Pius XII says so

(page down to #36 pp)

Thank you. I read through both documents, but still wasn’t finding the part of the quote I was looking for. Finally found the author of the post on Facebook and asked him. The part of the quote I was looking for: “The important message in Genesis is that there is a Creator, the he created the world by his word, and that he cares for his creation.”
His response: “That’s me. I am academically a theologian.”

Mystery solved.
