Just realized I posted this to the wrong forum but the delete button isn’t showing for some reason.

No one around me has potty trained a little one in close to twenty years so no one can give me advice on it. I have tried the video from pull-ups but my toddlers aren’t like the kids in the video and won’t tell me when there’s an emergency. I have tried to give them stickers every time they remember to tell me but my husband forgot what they were for and started giving them to them all the time. What worked for the rest of you? If you think this is to personal of a question for a board please pm me what worked for you, I’m about ready to move the three of us into the bathroom so they can never forget lol

Some signs to look for:
  • Your child can take their clothes off.
  • Your child has words for “poop” and “pee.”
  • Your child can stay dry for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • Your child starts to recognize when they’ve messed themselves.
These milestones are usually reached between the second and third birthday. If they aren’t interested by the third birthday, it would be an issue to discuss with the pediatrician. Remember, even after a child has fully potty trained, accidents can still happen.

Day time potty training and night time potty training are two separate issues.

Boys will frequently take longer to train than girls, and you have to train them twice (once for sitting to pee and once for standing).

One way to encourage them is to allow them to follow you or your spouse into the restroom when you have to go. They will want to start imitating you. Make sure you keep up a running commentary on what’s going on. Rewards are a great motivation (stickers, chocolate chips, big kid undies). Make sure that you use only positive reinforcement, avoiding punishments for accidents.

The biggest thing to remember is that you have to ask, ask, and ask again if they need to go. If you have problems remembering to ask them, get a timer and set it to go off every 20-40 minutes. When I’m first starting to train, I actually take them in every 20 minutes without asking. We just go in and sit for a few minutes. If they go, PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE them. If not, tell them that you’re sure it’ll happen the next time.
