Hello,

Didn’t know where to post my question so if I error-ed please correct me.
I was hoping somebody had a list of or links to information regarding the leading Fathers of the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. I need to write an article on this title and although I have found a great deal of info, I thought I would check the good old forum and see what might surface.
Even a personal opinion would be helpful if it includes some dates and facts.

Thanks to all you smartys out there!😃

The last person generally considered to be a “Church Father” was John of Damascus, and he lived in the 8th Century – I guess that would be considered really early Middle Ages. You could take a look here and find Scaff’s compilation of Church Fathers. And you could look at this Catholic Encyclopedia article about them, as well.

Thanks for the great references. The article is slowly coming together. I do some freelance writing for an online source and religion ( and Catholicism when available) is a subject I enjoy working on. Very important that I have good resources since they are listed on the article. Will post a link to it when it’s done.

Thanks again,
Phillip

I have read that at some point, I forget the date, such persons ceased to be designated Church Fathers. After that date new experts were designated Doctors of the Church. I forget the reason or effects of that change.
