My Dear Friend has been searching for information regarding a photograph that is supposed to be that of Bernadette Soubirous.
Some say that it is Bernadette and others say that it is not her.
The picture was to have been taken by Paul Dufour 1862-1863.
It is black and white and shows Bernadette alone, kneeling and praying in front of Our Lady Lourdes at the Grotto.
I have this picture in a couple of books but I am looking for a photograph or postcard.

thank you

make a pilgrimage to Lourdes in France, and i am sure you will find this photo, and find if it is actually bernadette. i myself beleive that it is her. also at this time before the end of the year, if you make a pilgrimage there; you may obtain special indulgences for visiting 4 diferent places important to her in her life, and in a certain order respectively, or you could go to the library, or purchase a book on the life of bernadette; more than likely from the ewtn library @ www.ewtn.com.

Thank you for your reply, the problem is I live in Lourdes and have my own on line Lourdes store, not even the Lourdes wholesalers know if the picture is real or fake it seams it’s quite a mystery?

On page 52 of the Laurentin Photo Album book, he confronts this Dufour photograph …

Here is what he says:

*

This is what is translates as

But is this really Bernadette? It’s not taken of her in the same way as others photos have been. The shadow on the photo is too big. The cheek that one distinguishes in a magnifying glass on certain tests is more rounded than that of Bernadette. This to me is a fake of Bernadette, said Benoît Melat-Toulet (1846 - 1908), two and a half years younger than Bernadette. This has left us perplexed for a long time…

So i have no idea

well then! you know much more than i thought that i knew, and then you must be right.
i was in lourdes in 1969, and had very bad allergies, and my mother put some water on my eyes from the grotto, and i was cured for many years. must be nice!
GOD BLESS!

🙂 Wow that is awesome, how are your allergies now and were your allergies cured instantly?

my eyes used to swell up from the pollen, and freshly cut grass. we had visited lourdes right before coming back to the usa; when my mother applied this holy water. i couldn’t say that it was instantly, because i didn’t have the symptoms at the time, but afterwards and for a very long time after; i was amazingly healed! after coming back to the usa in 1969 i was fine for a long while, but i kinda wandered away from the church in the late 70’s. into that rock and roll style of life, and somewhere between now and then i became allergic to everything. that’s what my allergist says anyway; everything! i returned to the church in march of last year, and i am awaiting the tribunals decision for annulment; that i may be back in full communion with the church.
GOD BLESS!
