Lord Falconer's assisted dying bill - Holy Hour 17 Jul 14

Dear fellow CAFer’s,

On 18 July 2014 Lord Falconer’s assisted dying bill will go for it’s second reading. The attached link will explain it in full carenotkilling.org.uk/falconer-bill/. In short, they are planning on legalising suicide, initially for a few people but without any proper safeguards, it will end up being abused even more than the abortion bill.

Our bishop is arranging for all churches to be open on 17 July for a Holy Hour before the blessed Sacrament to pray for its defeat.

Please brothers and sisters join our prayers, especially on 17 July.

If you live in the UK, please consider writing to a peer so that they receive your letter by 16 July 2014 (here is a link on how to do this: carenotkilling.org.uk/falconer-bill/).

I have just written to my MP, we were asked to do so by our Parish Priest on Sunday.Thanks for this article it prompted me to get going.
 
I was hoping to see more responses from people living in the UK with regards to this bill, it would be great if we can keep this thread ‘alive’ and follow the results of any and all opposition or support. I await a reply from my MP which I will post on here.
 
I wonder how aware the bishops are about this?

We have not heard anything in our parish, so I will try to pass this along. Has the 17th been fixed any where else?

Dear JackyB,

Sorry but your MP is powerless because the Bill is being read in the House of Lords. If you follow the links in my original post, you can either look up a peer or ask for the names of peers to be sent to you. I received 3 names plus the postal address of the House of Lords and have written to 2 so far and will write to others over the weekend. The aim is for every peer to receive at least one letter.

I worry because in Holland, some doctors now decide who lives and who dies without even consulting family members. The establishment says it doesn’t happen but the program I watched on EWTN told a very different story.

Thanks so much for the information, I am really ignorant of how the establishment works. I have this weekend off so will get writing, and praying. I have heard a little of what is happening on the continent, somewhere where even children themselves can decide if they should live and die, how did we get to this point so quickly without a murmur :blessyou:
 
Please comment- I feel ignorant, but these things in the UK and Europe seem to be going ahead at full-steam, and there is very little, if any opposition?

I am fearful for religious freedom in the UK and Europe. I really am. May God have Mercy on the UK.
 
Our Diocese is having a Holy Hour of Eucharistic adoration from 2000-2100 hours praying for the Bill to fail, everyone is welcome to join us in prayer.

I pray that God in His mercy will show the peers the truth of what will happen if the Bill is passed, and grant them the strength to vote against the Bill and protect the precious souls of our elderly and vulnerable members of society.
 
We had a beautiful Holy Hour for Life. We started with O Salutaris Hostia, followed by prayers, a reading from Ecclesiasticus (3.2-6, 12-14), the Litany of the Holy Eucharist, prayers, a hymn, Adoration prayer, 25 minutes Eucharistic Adoration, prayers, Tantum Ergo, prayers, Benediction and ended with O Sacrament Most Holy.

After a long busy day at work, it was a struggle but I am grateful for the opportunity to join in offering prayers before the Blessed Sacrament. It is in God’s hands and whilst I only see a little of the grand scheme, He sees and understands all of it. Whatever the outcome God will prevail, whether it is tomorrow, or in many years to come.
