Dear Brothers and Sisters,

God created us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next. Some of us may remember this from the Catechism, but it seems today that even some of our older Catholics are forgetting what they learned, while some younger Catholics seemed not to have “really heard” those words at all. May God have mercy on us all.

In St. Louis de Montfort’s book, “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin”, we begin to learn or re-learn God’s Plan, for enabling us to know, love and serve Him. Jesus comes to us as He came the first time - by the power of His Holy Spirit, He comes through Mary. Yesterday we began to ponder the preparation and Total Consecration of oneself to Jesus through Mary and we continue with the 33 day plan of 12 days and 3 weeks, and we continue today:
  1. Each day of the second week they should endeavour in all their prayers and works to acquire an understanding of the Blessed Virgin and ask the Holy Spirit for this grace. They may read and meditate upon what we have already said about her. They should recite daily the Litany of the Holy Spirit and the Ave Maris Stella as during the first week. In addition they will say at least five decades of the Rosary for greater understanding of Mary.
  2. During the third week they should seek to understand Jesus Christ better. They may read and meditate on what we have already said about him. They may say the prayer of St. Augustine which they will find at the beginning of the second part of this book. Again with St. Augustine, they may pray repeatedly, “Lord, that I may know you,” or “Lord, that I may see.” As during the previous week, they should recite the Litany of the Holy Spirit and the Ave Maris Stella, adding every day the Litany of the Holy Name of Jesus.
  3. At the end of these three weeks they should go to confession and Holy Communion with the intention of consecrating themselves to Jesus through Mary as slaves of love. When receiving Holy Communion they could follow the method given later on. They then recite the act of consecration which is given at the end of this book. If they do not have a printed copy of the act, they should write it out or have it copied and then sign it on the very day they make it.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful with the Fire of Your Love and Your Truth.

Tomorrow is the Feast of Mary’s Presentation in the temple as a child. God willing I’ll post the words of the Consecration for those who may want to renew their Consecration (as I hope to do) and to give those who may be considering whether to consecrate themselves totally using St. Louis de Montfort’s method an opportunity to read these beautiful words.

Looking forward to reading that. Tonight is my Adoration night, so even more appropriate. Thank you.

God bless,
Stephie

Dear Stephie,

Hopefully you will have your own copy of “True Devotion” to ponder. Some chapels for Adoration keep books there so hopefully your Adoration chapel has a copy of St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin”, if you don’t have one.

Even pondering the short form of the Consecration: " O Mary, My Queen and My Mother, I am all Yours, and all that I have is Yours. Keep me; guard me as Your property and Possession" gives us much to ponder and to know Mary is giving us to Jesus even as we say those words! 🙂

Thanks Stephie!
