Lords name in vain in TV advertisements

Lately, I have noticed that some TV advertisements promoting a TV show for certain networks have instances where they leave out people using God’s name in vain, GD for example, yet censor out other expletives. Whenever I hear it, I get offended and upset. I was wondering if any of you guys notice this as well when you watch advertisements on TV.
 
Well, I have. Let me give one example.

On SYFY, there is a show that’s being promoted called The Magicians. On one of the TV spots for the show, one of the characters yelled G*DD**n at another character; it was left uncensored.
 
I heard it all the time. One of my wife and my’s favorite shows is Suits, but they take the Lord’s name in vain on that show constantly. It’s really irksome, because it really feels like they’re going out of their way to do it…
 
The Magicians is an extremely nasty-minded and boring book, and one of its purposes is to be an anti-Narnia, anti-Hogwarts, anti-T.H. White, anti-fun book. So all the profanity in the commercials for the TV series would seem to be truth in advertising.

(And no, I didn’t read both books in the series. I’d already wasted too much time and brainspace on it.)

I just read a synopsis of the books’ story… wow does it sound boring…

Well GD isn’t one of the so called “Seven Dirty Words” that is mandated to be bleeped on network TV by the FCC. And on cable and other subscription services, those 7 words technically don’t have to be bleeped at all. The cable networks like Scifi will often self censor, usually only at the behest of their advertisers. But they’re technically not required to do so.

I notice it more in movies, and usually I will change the channel. Damn is not God’s last name.

Yeah. It’s all due to FCC regulations, honestly. Generally, networks only censor the words that the FCC considers offensive, and taking God’s name in vain isn’t one of them (nor is use of the devil’s abode). And really, the list the FCC uses was drawn up from George Carlin’s list of “Seven Dirty Words”. Before this, TV networks generally just self-censored by avoiding specific words and situations (not even letting married couples share a bed!) outright. And this self-censoring was generally stronger than today’s FCC censoring. But as the 70s were moving toward the 80s, it was obvious that shows were becoming less and less censored, and so, after seeing Carlin’s “Seven Dirty Words” (shown on broadcast TV!) the FCC brought down the hammer on specifically those seven words. Most other words not on that list aren’t even bothered with, and this includes using the Lord’s name in vain. The only addition to the list that the networks generally censor (but isn’t on the FCC list) is the b-word.
 
Ive always thought it very strange, especially in this day and age we live, that the FCC still censors out this stuff…seems like more people would be calling for an end to this practice, more people are more accepting of it nowadays, many people dont like any type of censorship, etc.

Ive even noticed on VERY late night tv, (network and basic cable channels), its the same rules for primetime tv, this makes no sense at all, I thought after hours tv, they were allowed to ‘get away’ with more.
 
My husband and I no longer watch TV except on rare occasions. Too much “junk” on…a waste of time for us. We read more. It has helped us spiritually too.

I stopped watching that show a long time ago because of the profanity.

My rule of thumb is “If the doorbell rang, and it was Jesus at the door, would I invite Him in to watch this with me?” If the answer is no, I won’t watch it either because Jesus is already with us at all times.

Certain networks and shows have it more than others. Fx, spike, tru, e, amc, comdey network etc.

always sunny is notorious for it but even major network “family” shows have it.
The middle" with Patricia heaton is horrible with the Lord’s name. It’s sad because without it my family would really enjoy it.
