My friend and I made this video which we shared online.

However, at one point in the video the videotaper says “Gosh” (replacing the “sh” with a “d”) or something like that. It wasn’t planned that that be said, but it was. And I don’t like it when people do take the Lord’s name in vain.

I’m kinda worried that I’m encouraging others, thus providing scandal to them, by having a video posted online to which someone takes the Lord’s name in vain (almost under their breath).

I don’t know, though. So should I delete it? Or is it fine?

EDIT: I changed the title just a little bit.

You didn’t create the video with the purpose of advocating using the Lord’s name in vain so you shouldn’t have to remove the video. It should be fine especially since it is only said once and was not part of a script. I am glad though that you don’t use the Lord’s name in vain and are as vigilent to notice it in video. This is a problem that most people, including myself, overlook and don’t worry about. So, don’t worry about the video but stay vigilent 👍

I dont say “Gosh” either becasue it grew from “God”, and later “Gee”
as in Oh God, Oh Gosh, Oh Gee, see the pattern and connections

Friend, I think you may be scrupling a bit too much over this. Merely saying “Oh God” is not necessarily taking His name in vain – much less typing it when relating the story to other people.

I also think that “gosh” is a perfectly fine alternative. As someone who used to say something far more blasphemous, I think the world would be a better place if more people said “gosh” instead of some of the alternatives.

Peace,
Dante

Don’t worry too much about it as it wasnt you that said it and good on you for not saying it. I try not to but it’s easier said than done but I keep trying anyway. My daughter absolutely hates it when anyone says it; She now says “Oh my days!” Note to self : must try harder!

I think you should edit out/delete the part of the video that has the Lord’s name taken in vain. Even though it was unintentional and someone else who did it, it is now out there providing a subtle witness to all who watch it. God gave us only 10 commandments, and 1 of those was explicit about not taking His name in vain. We would be wise to take that seriously.

taking the lord name in vain has nothing to do with using it as a swear (which means oath and not the use of offensive four letter words) word. all through out the bible people are asking god to curse, destroy, damn their enemies. taking it in vain (which means worthless) would be praying for god to do something and not expecting something to happen or an atheist swearing on the bible. so as long as you believe in god go nuts with the g-o-d and the fun to say four letter words.
