Just out of curiosity,
I learned about something called theology of reenactment in an OT class I took in seminary. In brief, the idea is that in the OT, when the people reenact an event, it is like them doing the event for the very first time.
I am curious, is the theology of the Lord’s Supper similar to that, or the same?

I don’t think so. While the Supper itself that happened before Jesus’s crucifixion might have happened in that context, we do it more on the context of Jesus’s request… “Do this in memory of Me”. So, instead of doing it as if it was the first time, we’re repeating it under the memory of what Jesus has done, while us a transcendent sacrifice that doesn’t need to repeat itself but to re-offer it to the Father, so to speak, and giving us a lamb for our Easter.

In what I’ve studied on the matter, it does seem different to me compared to the Jewish tradition of Passover. 👍

When the Jews celebrated the passover they believed that the events of the Passover were made present and they were participating in the passover events as they happened thousands of years before. It is in this context that Jesus said “Do this in memory of me” And yes we as st. Paul points out in 1st Corinthians 10:16:

“Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?”

When we celebrate the Eucharist we are participating in the events at the cross and that event is made present to us in the form of bread and wine.

This is standard Catholic thought on the subject. Does that answer your question.
