I start to doubt whether Jesus is Son of God, or he is just a Prophet of Israel.
I hope some of you can help me answer these question:
  1. In which Gospel or Letter, Jesus have ever said: “I am God” ?
  2. Jesus seems to be “ordinary man” read : Matthew 26:39
  3. Yudas @ Judas Iskariot, is he a betrayer? or is he doing his job to fulfilled the Prophecies?
  4. Moses are sent to save Jews from Egypt. Are Jesus sent to save Israel from Pontius Pilate? read Matthew 15:31
  5. Christianity existed before Jesus Christ, is this mean Jesus is just a Prophet in Christianity?
A have a lot of question waiting to be answer…I was a Catholic since I was born…but I’ve start losing my faith when I read The Bible again and again.

Hi Artemus,

Jesus intentionally did not “toot his own horn” and left it up to his followers, and to his Father, to see and show who he was.

At Jesus Baptism, the heavens open, and God the Father calls Jesus “my Beloved Son”

At the transfiguration, Jesus’ glory is shown to Peter, James, and John. He is shown beside Moses (giver of the law) and Elijah (represents the prophets). But beside them, Jesus’ magnificence is shown as a white glow of light around him. He is more than a prophet or a law-giver. To further emphasize this, again God the Father says “This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

These things have to be meditated on. I suggest praying the rosary and meditating on the ***luminous ***mysterious - not just once but every day if possible.

Do you need some more? There are more, but I think those two examples should be enough.

Greetings and peace be with you Artemus,

Neil mentioned the Transfiguration, and I wonder if the symbolism In the Gospel of the transfiguration; is linked to the greatest commandments. Moses is said to represent the law and Elijah is said to represent the prophets. All the law and the prophets hang on the greatest commandments. Does Jesus the central figure of the transfiguration represent the greatest commandments?

God the Father loves all that he is with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength.
God the Father loves each and every one of us as he loves himself?

Jesus spoke about two commandments being greatest for man, but can these same commandments have a greatest meaning for God also?

In the spirit of searching for God.

There are 12 disciples of Jesus and there should be 12 Gospels in our Holy Bible, but we only have Gospel According to Matthew, Mark, John and Luke.

The apostles went around the world preaching and converting people in person. They didn’t all write books or letters, but they did leave behind bishops who led people in the different cities, and today the bishops of certain cities trace their apostolic succession back to those apostles.

Would you be interested in a list of the areas that the different apostles travelled to?

Hello, Artemus, and welcome to the forums!

I’m sorry you are struggling with your faith, and I will pray for you.

You ask:
  1. In which Gospel or Letter, Jesus have ever said: “I am God” ?
The closest He came was John 8:58-59:
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. (RSV)
“I AM” is how God named Himself to Moses. (God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, `I AM has sent me to you.’” (Ex 3:14, RSV)

Another place is this.
They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6 When he said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. (John 18:5-6, RSV)
Why would these people draw back and fall to the ground, if all Jesus meant to say was “Yeah, that’s me”? No, He said, I AM, with the same supernatural force that God used on Moses.
  1. Jesus seems to be “ordinary man” read : Matthew 26:39
We know he was not an ordinary man. Ordinary men do not raise the dead, cure the blind and lame, appear with Moses and Elijah (the Transfiguration), or rise from the dead! The verse you mentioned is another example Jesus gives us of how to pray. He shows us that, even in the face of torture and death, we should still put His will ahead of our own.
  1. Yudas @ Judas Iskariot, is he a betrayer? or is he doing his job to fulfilled the Prophecies?
Both.
  1. Moses are sent to save Jews from Egypt. Are Jesus sent to save Israel from Pontius Pilate? read Matthew 15:31
Most Jews believed that the Messiah would be a conquering King, who would throw the Romans out of Israel, and that His kingdom would be an earthly one. The truth is that He came to “throw out” the power of sin, and His kingdom is spiritual, and is in both earth and Heaven.
  1. Christianity existed before Jesus Christ, is this mean Jesus is just a Prophet in Christianity?
I’m not sure I understand the question.

Until Christ came in the flesh, there was no Christian church. The Jews believed in an approaching Messiah, but that’s not Christianity. The Muslims believe that both Jews and Christians went wrong after Abraham, and that God’s chosen people descended from Ishmael, not Isaac. (Muslim friends, please correct me if I’m wrong.) That’s not Christianity, either. The Muslims call Jesus a prophet. Some sects that call themselves Christian believe this, too, or that He was merely a wise teacher. Real Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and one of the three persons in the Triune God (the Trinity).

As for the reason for 12 Apostles and only 4 Gospels:

First, only 3 of the Gospels were written by Apostles. Luke was probably the disciple of Paul mentioned in Col 4:14, 2 Tim 4:11, and Phil 24, but he was not an Apostle.

Second, why *should *there be 12 Gospels? If the four writers got it right, why would the others see a need to write one for themselves?

Third, it’s possible that there were more Gospels, but they have been lost pretty soon after the Church was founded. We have the four that were consistently handed on from the writers to be read in the early churches.

And there *are *some pretty early manuscripts claiming to be gospels of Thomas and Judas, but there are major problems with them. I don’t know enough about it to tell you why.

God bless you,

Ruthie

Jesus also revealed himself to the woman at the well as the Messiah. He also answered either Pilate or the head rabbi directly. I’m thinking it was the rabbi, who then tore his clothes and asked what more evidence they needed.

Contrary to so many claims, Yeshua did claim to be God.

See:
53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
-John 8:53-59

Why would Jesus NEED to say He was God for it to be true? If His own apostles, dearest and closest followers who knew Him as well as anyone, could say that He was - as John did in those beautiful words of John 1:1, then we can be assured.

But He DID reveal Himself as God - He permitted Thomas to worship Him as ‘my Lord and my God’ after His resurrection. What mere mortal, being a devoutly observant Jew as Jesus was, with all the hatred of idolatry that that entails, would permit this worship unless it were true?

Not really, beautiful song and Google says:
two classic Croatian songs from Ivanski, “Nada” in tune with Easter - I simply love it - and “Zvijezdo moja”, another very beautiful song.

The Croatian language is a South Slavic language which is used primarily by the inhabitants of Croatia as well as Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatian is based on the Ijekavian pronunciation of the Stokavian dialect (with some influence from Cakavian and Kajkavian) and written with the Croatian alphabet.

Can anyone tell me…what language is this?

I start to doubt whether Jesus is Son of God, or he is just a Prophet of Israel.
I hope some of you can help me answer these question:
  1. In which Gospel or Letter, Jesus have ever said: “I am God” ?

He doesn’t. If He had, that would count against Him - not for Him. Any fool can claim all he wants - Jesus lives what He is: though only those with eyes to see it, could see it. He forgives sins (Mark 2) - something none but God could do (this BTW is evidence of the claims of the CC that Confession is an Act of Christ…)

  1. Jesus seems to be “ordinary man” read : Matthew 26:39

That’s because He is one:** this man, is the man Who is “God-with-us”. How can God be “with-us”, if not as a man like us in all things but sin ? **

  1. Yudas @ Judas Iskariot, is he a betrayer? or is he doing his job to fulfilled the Prophecies?

**Both: his action is not necessitated by being foreseen - it is foreseen, because he would freely do it. He wasn’t a pawn in a Divine game of chess. Nor are we. The difference is, we aren’t Bible characters - he was. **

  1. Moses are sent to save Jews from Egypt. Are Jesus sent to save Israel from Pontius Pilate? read Matthew 15:31
##** Jesus saved Israel & the human race not from an occupying power such as Rome, but from the devil - a far greater tyrant than any earthly power. He is unlike what is promised, because He is better than the promises - not because He falls short of them. **
  1. Christianity existed before Jesus Christ, is this mean Jesus is just a Prophet in Christianity?

Explain please ? No, He’s not. 🙂

If you’re at all philosophically or theologically minded, I highly recommend a little book by Avery Cardinal Dulles titled A Testimonial to Grace. You can find a copy online, or order it through your local bookstore. God bless.

Go to Mary the mother of Jesus. Ask her for her help. Then never stop asking! She will help you. Especially under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe the Patroness of the Americas. She is most helpful under this title.
