Hi everyone,

I’ve been a Catholic for 2 years now. My husband and I have almost been married 1 year. A month ago, I had a miscarriage, and at first was brought much closer to God through my suffering.

Now in the past month since this happened, I feel like I have lost faith, or at least lost my sense of sin. I’ve been self-soothing by being lazy, gluttonous, and committing other sins. I don’t want to go to confession, and I don’t feel any remorse. I haven’t prayed in what seems like forever.

Whenever I’m in mass, I cry. I want to be sorry and I want to be back the way I was. I feel lost! 😦

Help!

Welcome to those of us who suffer from depression. See your physician soon and tell him your story. It is a part of the greiving process to feel this way. Some stay in this stage longer than others and may need help digging out. 🙂

Ruby, you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your child. I’m not sure I can help, but I know I can’t read your post and just move on.

You said you didn’t feel like praying. Really? Don’t you want to pray for the child you lost? I will, you might want to join me (and my wife). I can only imagine how difficult of a time you’re going through, but don’t let the devil gain a foothold in your soul. Just stop and pray, right now. Jesus wants to hear from you.

God bless you, your family, and the soul of your child.

You don’t have to “feel sorry” in order to be sorry for your sins. It is sufficient that you want to be sorry. I hope you will take advantage of the graces of the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this wonderful Holy Week. 🙂

Also get yourself checked by a doctor for depression. It is not a sin to be depressed - in fact, it is a normal and natural response to your situation. Get the medical and emotional help that you need; it is not a sin, or even a weakness, to need and to get help. 🙂

Hi everyone,

I am very sorry for your loss.

I might suggest that you allow yourself more time to grieve and maybe consider that this event is one of those things that will always be with you. As much as you want to go back to the past, the reality of today is what you must embrace.

I would also encourage you take a look at this website for resources on support during this time. The author of this blog is very responsive and has been through a similar experience.

Finally, your grief is reasonable and normal. Your grief and spiritual dryness can be prayers in themselves. Pray what you are feeling…not how you think you should feel or what you wish you could feel. Giving yourself to Christ includes giving Him your true self…even if all you have to offer is your broken spirit.

He never stops loving you. That is a hope you can cling to even when you don’t understand the “why?”.

You are in my prayers, tonight

From what I’ve read, women who miscarry grieve the same as someone who has lost a child that has been born.

If you had a 2 month old, and your 2 month old child died, I think you would still be grieving after a month. You may not be depressed, but instead be in an early stage of grief.

I will pray for both you, your husband and your baby.
