Im a 29 years old male and i come from a strong Irish Catholic background. My mother is a Eucharistic minister and the community i live in is small and close knit.
Over the past few years i have looked at my faith in the Church and i found that i was completly lost. i asked myself, “Why do i feel this way?”
All my life i have had the Catholic “Religion” forced upon me by my mother,my priests and school teachers all of whom (as im older and more educated now, i realise) have mis-led me in so many ways via rituals and sacriligous worship, alot of which actually comes from paganism
I questioned my faith, asking myself " Do i even believe in God!?
I now know that God DOES exist and Jesus is my Saviour but for a long time i was very lost and now i know why.
The basic fundamentals of the Catholic Church revolve around money as do the vast majority of Churches.Every Sunday i went to mass but i wasnt learning anything about God and how he loves me.i was learning nothing and getting more confused within myself.
My head master in school was a priest and a very evil man like alot of priests (im not saying that all are like this but alot are). He constantly mentally, physically and sexually abused pupils and all the while everyone knew about him but were afraid to speak out as he was “a pillar of society” and any questions asked upon him were shot down by Bishops and “the other pillars within the Church” I,like many young people was blinded by these “pillars”
I am now glad to say that i have left the Catholic Church and since i have,i have now found God through Jesus Christ and everyday is a blessing. I read the bible with joy as im learning and gaining knowledge that the Catholic Church would not have given me.
Many of you reading this may not like what you read but what i learned is that “i dont need a priest/bishop or the pope to get to Heaven. Praying at statues wont get me to Heaven.Saying a million Hail Mary’s and rosarys wont get me into Heaven.I could do good works for all my life and i would not get to Heaven. So i asked myself “How DO i get to Heaven?”.
The answer is by reading and studying the words of Christ Himself and asking Him to come into my life and into my soul to fill the emptyness that the Catholic Church left in me.
Jesus said” The only way to Heaven and God the Father is through me and only me".
Those are the words of Christ Himself and no priest/pastor/or pope can disagree with that. The Catholic Church is the most wealthy organisation on Earth and thats a fact and at every mass/funeral/wedding/baptism they get a little more richer. They have the wealth to wipe out the third-world hunger but every Sunday priests across the world make us feel guilty so we will pay more into the basket for the starving children, but in reality the vast majority of the money taken in each week goes to fund evil doings and sheer greed.Let me say that the Catholic Church isnt alone on this subject as 95% of all Churches do just the same.
Jesus’s love is free. He did not preach in huge marble and gold laden Churches or from altars made from the most finest materials known to man.He did not wear the finest silk garments or jewels. He preached the Word of God in fields,on hills,in humble homes. Did Jesus charge for this service? no he didnt,God’s Love is Free.Jesus asked us to accept Him as the Saviour of Man-kind and pray to Him for forgiveness, and use the Ten Commandments as a guide to living a wholesome life, occasionally we will sin and fall but Jesus will Forgive us if we are true in our hearts to Him and eventually we will sin less.
So to you i ask the question, what is more important the Catholic Church or Jesus Christ? i know who i choose,do you?

Why do i get the distinct feeling that this poster is not and never was a Catholic?

It sounds like the usual regurgitated Protestant polemics. What is it even doing here?

I’ll never understand why people feel the need to dump a load of manure on the forums every once in a while and demand that we Catholics clean it up!🤷

This isn’t how it works. You start a thread with a single topic, and then we discuss that topic. No one has the time to wade through massive jumbles of grievances.

Here’s the cure-all answer: Christ founded the Church. He gave Peter the keys. He promised that the gates of hell would never prevail. If you have a grievance, study, pray, and try to understand why you’re wrong and Christ’s Church is right.

Sounds to me like someone with an ax to grind. It’s not worth trying to argue with him because it won’t do any good. This poor man just needs our prayers.

I’m with you Bp. Basil. No Catholic could have written something like this. This Irish American Catholic with an advanced degree in Anthropology would certainly be able to discern the “paganism” in the Catholic Church and would refer the OP to the writings of Brother Jimmy Swaggert. He was more colorful in his imaginings of the pagan Babylonian church. Sad. So very sad.

I was Baptised in a Chapel in County Derry,N.Ireland and have attented Mass regulary and recieved Holy Comunion for near 30 years. I am not a Protestant and i never will be as they have just as much to answer for as the Catholic Church does. The Religions of this Earth are man-made and there-fore suit their own political agenda.Pleasing Governments all along the way. You ask “why is this post doing here?” Because i found Jesus and i want to let others who feel lost in their Church, regardless of Religion or creed that there is a light. Jesus Christ. He saved my life.

The Church had a lot more money before lands, churches, and monasteries were confiscated by governments such as England, Italy, and the USSR.

But more important than money is the freedom to preach the ENTIRE Gospel of the Lord, which includes that Salvation is from the Lord, and through the Church, which is his body, and headed by the Pope, which is the rock upon which he built the Church.

The truth is in the Bible, you just need to be open to it. And don’t forget why you have a Bible. It was maintained by hand, and compiled, by the Catholic Church.

God Bless,

Scott

Ok, Bob. Please. You do have to admit that what you are posting is pure protestant propaganda. In Northern Ireland you may not have seen what we here in the States see on a daily basis - Jack Chick Tracts. Any number of them state in virtually the same terms you use the same propaganda.

You say you have “found” Jesus. Do you realize that by going to Holy Communion that you have received the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ? This is not Religion, this is Faith. Take a gander at the Gospel of John. So many left Our Lord because he said unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you shall not have life within you.

BTW improve your propaganda. Catholics generally refer to Jesus as Our Lord.

Presumeably, Bob, being a Catholic would know about the Book of Kells. Presumeably, Bob, being a Catholic would know that it was the Irish who maintained the knowledge of Christianity during the Dark Ages and spread it back to England and thence to the Continent.

I would like to ask one question of the poster, and this is a question all anti-catholics fail.
He cannot answer this question unless he admits that his attacks on statues, the saints, Hail Mary’s, works are all based on lies. (we know who the father of lies is)

Here is the million dollar question…

How do Catholics worship God?

The answer to this question proves that it is ok to have statues, to say Hail Mary’s, to pray through the Saints, and that Catholics believe in Christ alone as the source of our Salvation.

You are lost without the Catholic Church as Jesus is the center of the faith, every attack on the Catholic Church ultimately is an attack on Jesus, the source and center of the faith.

In Christ

Everybody posting in this sub-forum (TRADITIONAL Catholicism) is already certain they’ve found Jesus. I know that I have. None of us feel in the least bit lost.

Your posts would be better-suited to the Apologetics forum or Non-Catholic religions forum.

Propaganda? Everything i have stated is known fact. Some of you may wish to hide behind your doubts, but one day you will see if you only read the bible.God gave us knowledge and Jesus told us to ask questions and the Spirit will live within us if we do so. Remember, Jesus was killed because what he was saying went against Jewish law and he was called a blasphemer.
The Pope is no better a person than you or me,he sins just like the rest of us as he is human, remember what Jesus said, “No master is greater than his servant and no servant is greater than his master” as men we are all equal under God.

BTW God doesnt accept mastercard or visa.

Agreed with this part at least, welcome of CAF Bob, I can’t see you staying long (with all due respect, people with your particular goal don’t hang about here in the long term)

bob, we all read the Bible. I can promise you that you’re not saying anything we haven’t all heard, before. I am sorry you had a negative experience with Catholicism. A lot of us have converted to Catholicism from protestant, non-denominational, Bible-Based beliefs.

Also, we know the Pope’s a sinner. This is not a secret.

I have read the Bible, Bob. I am a calligrapher/illuminator who attemps to aspire to that which our Irish ancestors did. You on the other hand have not responded to the greatest gift Our Lord gave us - body, blood, soul and divinity. I accept that gift as did St. Patrick, St. Kieran, St. Columba. Body, blood, soul and diviinty - not some Sassenach belief in sola scriptura. Body, blood, soul and divinity. Is this not good enough for you? The Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us. Is this not good enough for you?

Dear Bob,

Theological arguments aside - I would just like to say that if you found Jesus anywhere, in or out of the Catholic Church, I am very happy for you. I hope you stay in His grace for the rest of your life and that we someday meet in Heaven. I also hope that you won’t be too hard on those of us who have found Jesus within the Church and continue to seek Him there. May God bless you and guide you (and all of us). 🙂

Hey, Bob… have you ever read the Gospel of Thomas? Do you ever wonder WHY you haven’t read the Gospel of Thomas? Think about it. 😉

I was a cradle Catholic who fell away long before I had the opportunity to mature in my faith. I struggled with many of the same issues. After swimming in muck for a few years I went through a “conversion”. I came to know Jesus in a much deeper and more meaningful way. And do you know what He did? He led me right back into His church. You know, the one with all the statues and the Hail Marys. 😃

Sometimes it takes being away for a while for you to really appreciate what you’ve got. Often it’s the converts and the reverts that become the greatest defenders of the Church. Attending Mass now is so much more than a Sunday obligation. It’s something I look forward to all week.

So I don’t take the OP’s post as something to be upset about. I see it as the beginning of a wonderful journey, one that will undoubtedly lead him right back home. 🙂
