I’m struggling with my marriage lately. I’ve lost a lot of respect for my husband because he is lazy and doesn’t help out much. He leaves all of the planning–EVERY aspect of our lives as well as all of the finances and most of the cleaning to me (we both work). All major decisions–having kids, buying a house, etc etc have all been because of me. Left to his own devices, he would do nothing–has no ambitions whatsoever, no hobbies, no pursuits (unless you include video games). He has also physically “let himself go”, has gained quite a bit of weight. I am hurt by his lack of motivation and lack of concern for me. He is not the least bit depressed according to him, as one might guess. He’s actually pretty happy doing nothing.
My question is…how does one get respect back in a marriage when the husband doesn’t command respect? I am always in awe of men who take an interest in their lives and endeavor to better themselves–through personal development, spirituality, travel, exercise, higher learning, etc. How do I love him when I am utterly disgusted by his laziness such that I can’t stand to be around him?
