Hi Everyone

I as born into a family where my Mum is crazy about the church and claims to have seen Jesus when she prays My Dad is not religious. I used to go to church until I was 16 just in case all this were true, so I didn’t go to hell lol I have never been close to God or even prayed that much. I am 22 years old and kinda lost with where I want to go with my life…

Why am I alive? Why do I want a relationship? What do I base my life on? Why am I working hard? What is the point?

How do you lot believe in what the bible says and stuff?

how come the scientists say that they are certain the earth is billions of years old and we have fossils? they are much older than what the bible reckons the age of the earth is. They have even found bodies of people of before adam and eve’s time? Also no evidence of a great flood on this earth?

Is praying to God not just something you believe in cos you pray so hard? and your brain makes u see things? i kinda believe in spirits cos of the ouiji board, but it is more of a decision not to tamper with it just incase and i pretty much believe that there are spritis, so is the catholic religion the truth? I know all you guys are saying ‘oh, it’s the devil trying to stop you from believing and stuff’ lol all i know is that i think i am alive i am not greedy and don’t need anything, my life is free and i just want to do some good with my life.

I have only really started asking these questions, because I felt like I didn’t really want anything from life, so I started dating many women to help them with their dreams, but didn’t get anything from non-religious people, i didn’t see the point. Then I met a gorgeous Muslim woman and I feel fantastic with her and like I need to believe in God to be in a relationship and the woman that I see needs to, too. I am unsure whether to keep seeing the Muslim, as she insists on having Muslim children even though we love each other. I don’t know what to do…

Also, the Muslim woman has seen things move and she thinks that relatives do black magic on her cos one night her sister’s friend got dragged out the bed and she was pointing and talking, but it wasn’t her controlling herself lol WOW, my head is totally screwed about what to do haha I will end this message

I must come to a decision. I need to find out what to base my life on before it is over and I start looking too ugly and won’t be able to get girls so easily lol help?

BASICALLY, why do you lot believe in what the Catholic view is when there is loads of scientific knowledge that goes against what the bible says? and is Islam such a bad relgion? Kinda makes me think that it’s bad cos she is not protected by Islam with all that stuff going on and I have never experienced anything maybe cos i am catholic and live with my holy mum?

The fact that you are questioning is the beginning. You seem to be an intelligent young adult so why not begin by proving or disproving your trust in science. I would also encourage you that if you have an ipod to listen to some of the Catholic forums they have on itunes, like Catholic answers live. This is normally a good way to learn about the faith. As for the muslim woman please remember that you are both starting from two different spectrums. Also unlike you she seems to have a deep belief and is wishing her children to be raised muslim. No one can lead you to a relationship with God that is something that you have to seek and work towards. Additionally, the Bible says, “seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be open to you.” Good luck at reaching and searching for truth.

Ok, I believe lol with St bernadette and other miracles it seems stupid why so many people that I know of are leaving the church. Are they lazy in their faith?

I think that the church needs to do much more to promote these miracles in schools and churches so children do not leave the church.

I have shown the muslim miracle websites and asked her for miracles from islam. I have seen alot of dumb claims on the net like snow on a mountain in the shape of allah lol

If she is not smart enough to become a Catholic after she knows about the miracles, then that is her problem and I will get a Catholic wife

I feel full of hapiness now that I know the truth, so tomorrow I will go to confession and on Sunday I will go to church

One last question… Why are there fossils when apparently our planet is only 6k years old? That is what really made me think that the bible must be made up by some guy?

**We are not called upon to hold to a literalist interpretation of Genesis.

Only that God started the process.

Even Genesis 1 supports the Big Bang and evolution, which is no more than an orderly process of development from simpler to more complex forms. And notice carefully that it does not have God saying, “Let there be grass,” but “Let the earth bring forth grass.” Not quite the same thing, is it?**

First of all I would like to point out that you are very confusing and have mixed intentions when writing this. It is very unclear on what your point or purpose for writing this thread is exactly. You need to focus your mind on just one subject and try to persuade any individual that tries to read your post, to focus on just one subject or topic at a time. You bring forth many topics and subjects in a very unorganized way. If you are talking about one particular topic, make sure to keep it constant and don’t immediately jump to the next subject and all of a sudden return to the previous subject you had already talked about because that makes the reader become confused.

Secondly, I detect all of this is made up and you were just entangling yourself in your own lies which caused your writing to be confusing, unclear and not properly written. I assume that by the age of 21, you should already have some writing skills and a certain degree of seriousness when asking to recieve some help in a catholic forum. The Church permits us to believe that the earth and creation is older than 6,000 years. I am 6,000 year guy though myself. I don’t think secular science takes into consideration the outcome of a worldwide flood and the conditions that it created. I would suggest a movie…an entertaing one…Here is the website.

However you end up believing, I think it succeeds in showing that if the monks, and popes, and bishops, and theologians are biased in their evaluations of natural science and the Bible, there seems to be a little bias in the “land of academia” too. The secular scientific community is not necessarily a bunch of neutral observers either.

He knew you before you were even thought of by your parents, and your children…He knows them too! We just have to know that we are part of His plan, and the more we pray, the better we get at listening to Him, and things start to get a little clearer SOMETIMES

The best way for me to explain this is that He created animals on a ‘different day’. He’s God! Who’s to say His day was 24 hours? When WAS Adam and Eve’s time? We don’t know! There’s actually been some studies that suggest there WAS a great flood…depends on where you look for proof

When I was baptized, I was kneeling at the railing of the Methodist Church and I will go to my death bed knowing that I saw His knees next to mine. It wasn’t a “I just saw a ghost” feeling…I wasn’t scared…I just knew it was Him, like an old friend. I can’t say I knew how to pray back then. It was all words I repeated because that’s what the minister called for. But, since coming Home, I’ve learned to pray.

I will say to you this: I have a few good friends that are Muslim. Not great friends, because we can’t connect on issues of God. My God is a trinitarian one…theirs isn’t. We don’t connect spiritually, and I will not give up my God for them. Be careful, ok?

FIRST OF ALL, I would like to point out that you are not a very nice person and if you can’t help, then you should go away. I do have a degree and I am studying my accountancy exams. My brother is a doctor and my sister is going to become a teacher, so I am not from a retard family. I had just done a night shift and I was rambling on a bit, but then I wrote the bit at the end that I was most concerned with.

Why would I make this all up? Is this something that you would do? I certainly don’t have time to do this, because I have a life.

I am restraining myself because I have just been to confession and don’t want to sin, but basically TALK TO THE HAND lol.

I have just been to church after 6 years of not going and it felt kinda weird. I have been a thug/ confused man for the last 8 years, but I am just going with the flow. I have not sinned since going to church and I hope to not sin ever again

I got some prayer cards and I am going to church, tomorrow One thing I will find hard is getting to church due to work, but I will try my best.

I have also decided to go to Lourdes in France

I’ll try to answer some of your questions…

I dont think that science disproves our faith at all. We’re not fundamentalists and don’t think that reason, or science, is a bad thing… and it has proved many Catholic miracles in the past (such as: miraclerosarymission.org/lanciano.html)

also there are many interpretations of Genesis, we don’t really know HOW God made the world… the Church allows both literal and more symbolic interpretations of Genesis, the only things we have to believe there is that Adam and Eve were real people, that we have souls, that God is the Creator, and that even if the body evolved, the soul didn’t. I don’t think science has anything to say against this. (because it’s concerned with only the natural world)

Regarding prayer, the more we pray the more we get to know God… He becomes like a real Person that we know, not just a ‘higher power’. We begin to understand more of His love for us, and He transforms our lives for the better. (and transforms us for the better)

You’re right that there are spirits, but there are both good and bad ones, and ouija boards etc put people in touch with the bad ones. So it’s best to stay away from that. We as Catholics pray to God, and we ask Mary, the Saints, Angels to pray for us.

I think the best thing to do is to just pray and get to know God… when you’re ready, it’s a great idea to start receiving the Sacraments again…

You are only in your early 20s… so why not join a Catholic youth group to mix around and exchange views with lots of young people of both sexes- people you can easily jive with?

Even better, look for a Catholic Charismatic youth group. These young people often undergone deep conversion experiences that imbues with a sense of mission- an inner longing to share their faith, their enthusiasm and their love with fellow Catholics, with protestant Christians and with non-believers.

If you join and partake in their activities, you will be no longer lost but find purpose in life. Be re-born again, greatly strengthened in the Catholic faith and be renewed by the Holy Spirit.

Christianity is an experiential faith- it’s one thing to intellectually believe in your head that God exists; another to profess in your heart that Jesus is your personal Lord and Saviour, and yet another to encounter God experientially in your daily life through His saving acts of Mercy; though the sacraments; by directly hearing His voice or indirectly though inspired reading of the scriptures. But a far more convincing experience is directly encountering God and the supernatural as in healing by laying-on of hands, other miracles, visions, prophecy and spiritual manifestations.

You are far more likely to personally witness spiritual phenomena in the Charismatic Renewal within the US than on overseas pilgrimages to places like Lourdes.

Our God is a very jealous God who doesn’t allow any of us to meddle with the evil spirits associated with ouija boards, fortune-telling, charms, etc. If we resort to any of these, scripture tells us He is greatly offended and our relationship with Him is broken unless we repent, confess our sin and return to Him.

Sounds you do like your Muslim friend quite a lot, and are quite concerned about her spiritual welfare. Besides praying the rosary and the Divine Mercy chaplet, you should invoke Our Lady’s powerful intercession for her. You could also deepen your understanding of the Catholic faith and learn to put on the Armour of God for protection from any evil attacks. [Furthur info found in the Letter to the Ephesians in your bible- Chapter 6 verses 10-18].

Regarding scientific knowledge-vs-bible and Islam as a religion, they are off-topic, so let’s talk about these 2 side-issues off-forum by using private messages.

I have intellectually arrived at the conclusion that the Jews or Catholics are correct lol

I know that many prohecies are proved correct through Jesus, but the Jews say that not all and they believe that he needs to build a 3rd temple and other things were not prophecised.

Do they have the same books, but divided up differently?

Are all of our prophecies met through Jesus?

many things in the old testament are exactly prophecised, so can somebody who knows alot about this stuff give me some help on the matter, please?
