Please pray for my 21 year old son who does not believe in God. He tried to kill himself
on a drug overdose on 2 occasions in the last couple of months. He is currently
in an addiction treatment facility for drug /sexual addiction. I’ve been unable to have any
contact with him but was told recently that he now has me on his contact list. I
need help in my prayers. I have to somehow bring him to christ and I don’t know how.

Feeling for you about your son.
I thank God that your son has survived to suicide attempts,
and that he has you on his contact list.
I thank God also that he is somewhere where he can receive help.
But as you indicate, whatever healing he receives there he most of all needs God’s healing.
I join you in prayer for that.

On your son’s behalf:
“This…is what I pray before the Father from whom every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes its name: Out of His infinite glory, may He give you the power through His Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God.”

“Glory be to Him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to Him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.” [Ephesians 3: 14-21]

I reiterate Trishie’s words that I thank God that your sons suicide attempts failed.
Also that you are on the contact list.I will certainly keep you & your son in prayer to know God
and overcome his addictions. At least he is in the right place to get the help he needs.May God grant you strength to cope with all of this.

Dear Lord please help this young son who has lost his way in life.He does not know You and we pray You will send Your Holy Spirit to his hear that he will open his mind and hear to You.He has addictions and we ask You to heal him and grant strength to his dear mother to support her son with love compassion and strength to cope with the emotional stress.

(A prayer for your son to know God)

A SPIRIT TO KNOW YOU
Gracious and Holy Father,
Please give this son:
intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you,
diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
a spirit to know you,
a heart to meditate upon you,
ears to hear you,
eyes to to see you,
a tongue to proclaim you,
a way of life pleasing to you,
patience to wait for you
and perseverance to look for you.
Grant him a perfect end,
your holy presence,
a blessed resurrection
and life everlasting.

PRAYER FOR
FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION
Lord Jesus,You said,
“I have come to set the captives free.”
We are captive and need Your healing touch.
Free us, Lord, from our addictions,
so that we will be:
…free from the cares and worries that stifle our happiness;
…free from sins that cling to us, and to which we cling;
…free from all compulsive behavior
that prevents us from becoming what You, Lord,
have planned for us.
Bring us, loving Savior,
to the experience of abundantlife
which You promised.
We pray especially for this young son
Amen.

I have to somehow bring him to christ and I don’t know how.
Since he doesn’t believe in God, your whole demeanor and availability to him will be your strongest prayer.

I was a trained Youth Crisis Hotline counselor, and dealt with a number of suicidal people. People who are suicidal often have never been “heard out” by somebody without getting interfered with, interrupted, or shut off. For example, if they admit they want to die and somebody says, “that’s a bad idea,” or “that’s dumb,” or “you shouldn’t do that,” then that tells the person that in addition to their other problems, you think they are fools.

Better to just ask, “what’s going on” and listen, do not judge, do not get excited one way or the other but remain calm. When you listen, use “empathy” not “sympathy” by asking him once in a while something like, “so you were scared at that point?” or “did you feel left out?” while they are telling their story using feelings (feelings are more important than the technical details of their story) to probe whether you are hearing and “feeling” them accurately. Ask as a question to invite feedback. This shows that for once – ONCE – a Real Human Being actually is understanding how he feels.

After that, acknowledge that you can now see why he is so anxious to escape the pain of his situation. ( I say NOW because then he knows you learned something from his story and it shows him you are on his side. ) THEN if it seems right, it is OK to tell them they are valuable and we wish they would not take this path – but again only after hearing them out and acknowledging their feelings first. From here there are several strategies you can take: you can just leave the discussion at that for a while, or you can say, “I wonder what other things we might be able to do that doesn’t involve losing you.” At this point, trust that the Holy Spirit will guide you.

Do not get the Superman syndrome, and expect that you should be able to fix them in a short period of time – when they have had a mess for years. If, God forbid, he ever succeeds, it is NOT YOUR FAULT.

Back to the Jesus part: if you listen attentively, you have done to Him what God commanded we do to His Son, and thereby have treated Him like Christ. This is the best thing I can think of that you could do to bring him to the love of Christ. Notice that you can bring him the “love of” Christ without even speaking His Name aloud, when you need to. 😉

Most High glorious God enlighten the darkness of our hearts. Give us O Lord, a correct faith, a certain hope, a perfect charity, sense and knowledge, so that we may carry out your holy and true command.

Psalm 110

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; in the council of the just, and in the congregation.

Great are the works of the Lord:
sought out according to all his wills.

His work is praise and magnificence:
and his justice continueth for ever and ever.

He hath made a remembrance of his wonderful works, being a merciful and gracious Lord:
He hath given food to them that fear him. He will be mindful for ever of his covenant:
He will shew forth to his people the power of his works.

That he may give them the inheritance of the Gentiles:
the works of his hands are truth and judgment.

All his commandments are faithful:
confirmed for ever and ever, made in truth and equity.

He hath sent redemption to his people:
he hath commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. A good understanding to all that do it:
his praise continueth for ever and ever.

Prayer in Honour of the Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Most holy and afflicted Virgin, Queen of Martyrs, you stood beneath the cross, witnessing the agony of your dying son. Look with a mother’s tenderness and pity on me, who kneel before you. I venerate your sorrows and I place my requests with filial confidence in the sanctuary of your wounded heart.

Present them, I beseech you, on my behalf to Jesus Christ, through the merits of His own most sacred passion and death, together with your sufferings at the foot of the cross. Through the united efficacy of both obtain the granting of my petition. To whom shall I have recourse in my wants and miseries if not to you, Mother of Mercy? You have drunk so deeply of the chalice of your Son, you can compassionate our sorrows.

Holy Mary, your soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow at the sight of the passion of your divine Son. Intercede for me and obtain for me from Jesus (mention the desired favour) if it be for His honour and glory and for my good.

Amen. Amen. Amen.

After posting that last message, I reviewed the rules for this forum and saw that advice is not allowed, and the time has passed when I can edit or delete the post.

That said, lives have been saved through the advice I gave, as it was the gist of my training in suicide intervention – and it could even save a life in this case, God willing. So I have broken the rules for a perceived good cause, but I am reporting my own post to the moderators so they can deal with this as they see appropriate.

I’m sorry if I disturbed the thread. 😦

Your son and you are definitely in my prayers. “Lord, I pray that this soul will feel your loving touch, and that with Your help, his mother can help him come to terms with his life and find You. Please give her the right words to say when the time comes. Amen.”

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

I have been there, where your son is now.
I came back, it’s not hopeless!
I will pray for him without ceasing.

Be at peace

*Psalm 129 **
*
De profundis. A prayer of a sinner, trusting in the mercies of God. The sixth penitential psalm.

Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.

Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall stand it.

For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord.

My soul hath relied on his word:
My soul hath hoped in the Lord.

From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.

Because with the Lord there is mercy:
and with him plentiful redemption.

And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Psalm 19
Unto the end. A psalm for David.

May the Lord hear thee in the day of tribulation:
may the name of the God of Jacob protect thee.

May he send thee help from the sanctuary:
and defend thee out of Sion.

May he be mindful of all thy sacrifices:
and may thy whole burnt offering be made fat.

May he give thee according to thy own heart; and confirm all thy counsels.

We will rejoice in thy salvation; and in the name of our God we shall be exalted.

The Lord fulfil all thy petitions:
now have I known that the Lord hath saved his anointed. He will hear him from his holy heaven:
the salvation of his right hand is in powers.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses:
but we will call upon the name of the Lord, our God.

They are bound, and have fallen:
but we are risen, and are set upright. O Lord, save the king:
and hear us in the day that we shall call upon thee.

Salve Regina

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us O holy Mother of God,
R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Matthew 11:25-30
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Prayer of Parents for their Children
O Lord, omnipotent Father, we give you thanks for having given us children. They
are our joy, and we accept with serenity the worries, fears and labors which bring
us pain. Help us to love them sincerely. Through us you gave life to them; from
eternity you knew them and loved them. Give us the wisdom to guide them,
patience to teach them, vigilance to accustom them to the good through our
example.
Support our love so that we may receive them back when they have strayed and
make them good. It is often so difficult to understand them, to be as they would
want us to be, to help them go on their way. Grant that they may always see our
home as a haven in their time of need. Teach us and help us, O good Father,
through the merits of Jesus, your Son and our Lord.
Amen.

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to You. Allow your healing hand to
heal this son. Touch his soul with Your compassion for others. Touch his heart with
Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch his mind with Your wisdom, that his
mouth may always proclaim Your praise. Teach him to reach out to You in his
need, and help him to lead others to You by his example. Most loving Heart of
Jesus, bring him health in body and spirit that he may serve You with all his
strength. Touch gently this life which You have created, now and forever.Grant strength
to his mother to enable her to bring him to You and comfort her in her time of worry
Amen.

Praise the Lord that this young man is still alive.
He is in control.

Remember Most Blessed Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,
our Mother.
To you do we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions,
but in your mercy, hear and answer them.
Amen.

In Christ,
