Hello. I recently purchased Christian Prayer because I had prayed it with some retreat leaders. I really liked having the two groups saying the antiphons and everything. Now that I bought the book, I have no clue how to use it, though. Can someone give me a page by page explanation, please? My priest is going to be gone the next 2 or 3 weekends, and I would like to start as soon as possible. Thanks for any imput!

We will currently be in Wednesday of Week II. You can use the one volume breviary (Christian Prayer) to basically pray all the hours and I do this though I’m not yet canonically obligated to pray all the hours. I think its a good practice that encourages prayer throughout the day.

I’d start praying just morning (lauds) and evening (vespers) prayer and then add night prayer (compline) and Office of Readings (Matins) and Daytime prayer (what basically used to be terce, sext, and none) as you get more familiar with it.

Probably the best way to get started is read the rubrics in the ordinary (pg. 686).

Note that Liturgy of the Hours Apostolate is free on Fridays and Sundays. It is a good way to check what you are doing.

Universalis is free everyday but incomplete. It does have some good guidelines on the Hours. It also has the two readings for the Office of Readings which are not in the one volume Christian Prayer.
