Hello!

Two questions on the LOTH:
  1. Can you use the Common prayers (eg, Common of Pastors, Martyrs, etc.) during the Easter season? For example, for tomorrow, could I use the Common of Holy Women for St. Rita, or does the scheduled office for the day (Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter) trump a memorial?
  2. If you are using one of the Commons, do you always have to use the psalms from Sunday, Week 1 for morning prayer, or can you use the psalms of the day? For example, for tomorrow, if I use the Common of Holy Women for St. Rita, must I use psalms from Sunday Week 1 or can I use the psalms from Friday, Week II (and take everything else from the Common)?
Thanks so much!

I’m pretty new to praying the LOTH, but regarding your first question, I would think you can use the Commons of Holy Women on the appropriate days, even in the Easter season.

I also would agree and I relatively new to LOTH. I use Christian Prayer 1 volume set.

Yes, for the (optional) Memorial of St Rita, you may refer to the Common of Holy Women (which even indicates optional alleluia’s for the Easter Season).

For a Memorial (whether optional or obligatory), psalms and their antiphons come from the current weekday. (If you have reason to celebrate with greater than the assigned solemnity, you could use the Sunday I psalms and Commons antiphons)

(If you are using the CBP edition of Christian Prayer, there is a handy table on p 37, which in this case refers to the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours #s 204 and 234-236)
