I’m using “Christian Prayer”, a one volume book published by Catholic Book Publishing Company.

For both Sunday Evening Prayer I and II, the Psalter says after the Our Father, “Prayer, as in the Proper of Seasons”, but when I turn to the Sunday in Ordinary Time, there is no prayer listed for the Evening Prayers, just the Morning Prayer. A prayer is given in Lent and Easter, but not Ordinary Time.

What do I do?

Use the prayer given. The concluding prayer is the same for Morning Prayer as for Evening Prayer.

Congratulations, by the way, on figuring out the single volume! I couldn’t figure it out. (Of course, it still took me a year to get the hang of the Office with the four-volume set, and with somebody to teach me how to say it…)

I was going to say the same thing - I don’t use Christian Prayer, but in the Morning and Evening prayer book I do use, the three Sunday prayers will all conclude with the same concluding prayer.

Concur. Also NB: Even in Lent and Easter (and Advent and Christmastide), when a prayer is given for each hour, it is identical in all three.

In the *You-didn’t-ask-but *department:
If you pray the Office of Readings, when it prescribes prayer, as in the Office of the day, it means:

  • *]On Memorials, Feasts, Solemnities and days outside Ordinary Time, use the concluding prayer from Morning or Evening prayer (which are identical).
*]On Sundays and weekdays of Ordinary Time, use the concluding prayer from Sunday of the week.

This is why concluding prayers are given for the I Sunday and XXXIV Sunday, even though those days are never themselves celebrated.
