LOTH- What week are we on?

Sorry for such a quick question, but I am a bit confused lol. What week are we on in the LOTH? I use the Christian Prayer and the Shorter CP books.

Also, in the CP book there is the office of readings in the back. When do I read these, and how do I know which ones, etc.?

In the full (4-volume) Liturgy of the Hours, there are different readings for every day of the liturgical year in the Office of Readings, and for every saint’s feast.

In the one-volume version you mention, there is just a small sampling. (That’s how they got it to fit into one volume.)

I guess you have to pick one that is most closely related to the feast, season, or saint that is being celebrated. There will be a lot of repetition if you do Office of Readings every day.

If you find that you like to pray the Office of Readings daily, you may want to get the 4-volume version. (If cost is an obstacle, you can find used ones online, or buy them one volume at a time, or ask for them for a birthday or Christmas present.)

Whichever week and day you are on for morning and evening prayer, use the corresponding OOR week and day. It is my understanding that you can pray OOR at any time during the day or night. In addition to the psalmody which lines up as I described above, there are also e.g. “non-biblical readings for Advent Season”, etc. I think you just pick one that is appropriate for the season.

There’s a rule for knowing the weeks.

Week 4 in the Psalter corresponds to weeks that are a multiple of 4. So the 4th, 8th, 12th, etc. weeks of Ordinary Time will be week 4. You can move forward or backward from that to get the current week. If it’s the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time it’s week 1 (the 28th Sunday would be week 4 so add one to that). If it’s the 5th Sunday of Lent we’d be in week 1 (the 4th Sunday would be week 4 so add one).
