Loud people at mass

Somewhere on another imaginary thread there is a woman saying this::

“I go to a Church where I feel like I am the only one singing. The other people are so timid. I feel like I am the only one. There is no joy there. Should I say something, or go to another Church?”

The phrase I bolded is the key to your problem. You have decided that her reason for being loud is that she loves to be above everyone else. Learn to separate your observations (loud singing) from your imagination (she loves to be above others).

In traditional Catholic morality it is actually considered the sin of rash judgment if we make judgments about interior states of others such as their motives. I recommend that you go to Confession about your problem. The grace of the Sacrament may give you strength to deal with the situation.

She is not hard of hearing. She is not old. She is a nice person! She is a lovely person.

I was only asking what others do in the same situation. I would never tell her to tone it down. That would be up to the celebrant. There is a guy like her too, and he is in the choir! 😃

Anyway, thanks people for your answers. I guess i should try as hard as possible not to hear her or speak louder than her! 😃

As i said, she is a lovely woman and i wouldnt dream of upsetting her in any way. I know i have to live with it and maybe embrace it! I could offer it up to god.

I have read about St Theresa and the sister who used to rattle her rosary etc. I should take a leaf out of her book and be humble about it.😃 👍

I hope that I did not come across as writing to you with a harsh tone. I struggle with making rash judgments about others, so I’m afraid you got one of the lectures that I give myself.🙂

I know exactly how you feel, as we have experience some issues at mass too.

This is my prayer before mass, I write prayers as often I can, they come to me mostly in the mornings. Use this prayer before you begin Mass next time.​

Lord, I am here to listening to Your Words, grand me ears only to You.
Dear God shower me with Your Wisdom.

Stretch Your Arms my God. Reach into my heart and make it loving and kind like You. Bring into me all those things that make it worthy of Your Love. Do not let me fall into temptation and guide me through this new day. Amen

I know you have said she is not hard of hearing (has she had her hearing checked recently just in case?). But I am Deaf and therefore do not know how loud I am saying things in church. I would not feel offended if someone came up to me and said that I need to talk quieter or louder etc. I’d say something to her, tell her that you don’t mean to offend but… If it makes you feel better say that it is your problem and ask her to join you in prayer to help you to cope with it and to be friends with her
 
As my mother would say…at least God will recognize her voice in heaven. Some of us just speak louder than others.

We Texans do like to draw out our prayers 😃 I have noticed that one of the teachers at my school, being from the Northeast, hardly leaves us time to breath when we pray at the start of classes :whacky:

P.S. Any Texan could tell you, drawl doesn’t have an e! and We aren’t slow, we just savor each syllable 😦 😛 😃
