Lourdes grotto in Cleveland pilgrimage site

If you won’t be able to make it to France for the anniversary consider a trip to one of the shrines in this country modeled on the Lourdes grotto. Here is a short history of the one in the near east side suburb of Cleveland: Euclid OH on Chardon Rd

It looks very lovely. I wonder what happens when the real cold comes!

There may be a few like Shrines around the US, shrinect.org/Lourdes_in_Litchfield/Welcome.html I guess is in Conneticutt.

I am thankful, I am near a Church that has a bit of a special place devoted to Lourdes in there.

Maybe others know of other Shrines around the US/Canada. They can post them here. I am even able to get Lourdes water sometimes here but I mainly shy away from going to the office of the Church. Maybe you can at this Shrine in Ohio.
 
We can’t afford to travel within our own state let alone go to another that has a grotto, fortunately for us, though one of the oldest parishes in the Twin Cities is named for Our Lady of Lourdes, to which we went to to honor her Easter Sunday. There’s a lovely life-sized statue of OLOL and St. Bernadette inside. The church’s outdoor Grotto is being renovated, but the only picture I could find online is of the church itself: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

That is a great church on the waters of the Mississippi; I have been there a time or two.

And, for anyone who doesn’t know, it is divine when one can hear their bells to indeed, the hymn of “Immaculate Mary.” They may only have those bells at noon and like how the Angelus is done, in the morning, etc. Editing to add on, I think it is “Immaculate Mary” that is played, but it is a while since I have been there and possibly there is some other hymn the bells play, it’s like, I don’t know how to say, obviously modern technology helps the bells sound that way around that part of Hennapin Ave.

And, one more thing, is that it is said, if Martin Sheen is in the Twin Cities, that is where he will go to Mass.

So, he is rather devout, whatever one may make of the protests he has been involved in. That movie with Sheen as Eddie Slovic is a great one.

We don’t live in Mpls but in a northern suburb too far away to make it our parish, but I sure wish it could be sometimes. Our own parish is quite orthodox, but it’s a modern building that is uninspiring even though it has some stained glass windows. Sigh!

I didn’t know that about Martin Sheen. That’s interesting. Maybe he has a special devotion for OLOL or St. B or maybe he just likes the ambiance of the church itself. It’d be great if we could ask him.

How I’d love to go to Lourdes, France this year. But, alas, unless a financial miracle befalls us, we’ll have to be content with the church in Mpls., not to take anything away from it as a church or a parish. There’s just nothing like the “real thing,” is there?
 
Our Lady of Lourdes is the patroness of my city and diocese! I will be going to the cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes during the 150 year celebrations during september!
 
Here is a picture of the grotto of Lourdes at the University of Notre Dame. It is a beautiful place to sit and pray after class and is a popular place for visitors to campus.

definitely visit on grounds of Oblate School of Theology when you are visiting SA, website above, quite lovely

also of course Missionary Oblates shrine in Bellville Illinios, only 10 minutes off the highway.

the last few years we have been "collecting’ Marian shrines on our business and vacation trips.

there is another shrine south of Fremont Ohio (used to be exit 6 on the turnpike) only a 20 minute side trip and well worth it. but cannot for the life of me remember the name.

if you are down here, Immaculate Conception in Rio Grande City has a small but lovely outdoor Lourdes grotto on the grounds.

I have been to Cleveland probably 15 times and never heard of this! I think I spent too much time at the Flats.

Anyway, the next trip to Cleveland will include a stop in Euclid! Thanks so much for the link!
 
since you are going out east anyway, also call St. Paschal Baylon in Highland Hts and ask about the St. Ann shrine. this is one of loveliest churches I have ever seen built in the modern style (looks better from the inside), glass on 3 sides, have been to several first communions & baptisms there, and it is the ideal setting as architecture enhances rather than detracts from Mass and sacraments. in fact it is one of the only “modern” (built after 1968) churches I like.

I pass through Highland Heights often. We stay around the Landerhaven area.
