Ha Ha! When I find clothes turned inside out in the laundry I just fold them that way or hang them that way.

But MY husband takes his shirts off with one sleeve the right way and the other inside out. ARGH! You kind of have to turn it one way or the other, and it seems so mean to turn them so they are BOTH inside out…

I appreciate the intention of the writer - and the sentiment is something I’m going to think on and consider.

However, it is clear she is not doing laundry for six people everyday 😃

The difference between co-operation and non-cooperation can be closer to an hour than a just a few minutes. 😉

So true. While I think it is sweet of her to not say anything and just turn the sleeves the right way, there isn’t anything wrong with asking him to take his shirt off the right way to save time. It probably makes no difference to him how he takes it off.

She could use that time to… pack him a lunch. He’d probably really like that.

Good for her, but if her husband is reading Ignitum Today, he just found out. Might be more useful to just talk to him face to face about it. 🤷

We had the same issue and I did try asking my husband to turn some things inside our and not to do that with other things. He does try, but I still find things turned/unturned. Doing laundry is new to him. Sometimes he gets it mixed up or can’t remember which things are supposed to be inside out and which are not. Sometimes he just takes his clothes off automatically and doesn’t even realize what he is doing. He is 32, he has been taking his clothes off the same way most of that time, no one ever drew his attention to it before. I have my own little things so I understand that sometimes it really is as innocent as it can be.

Once I read an article about some research that said that men actually don’t notice dirty mugs around the house. It said that it is useless to talk to them about it because they actually have a blind spot for such things.
So now we put some things that both of us do in the “dirty mugs” category. They are minor things that do no real harm and that we do without thinking or noticing. They don’t cause our household to become chaotic and it doesn’t take a lot of time (usually the other person’s time) to correct these things. The only way these small things cause problems is if we decide to make a big deal and fight over them. So we don’t.
I don’t know if the research is correct, but this works for us.

My husband’s thing was leaving tissues (and sometimes spare change or pens, which were the worst, ugh…) in his pockets. They’d shred and get all over everything. But he just didn’t remember even though I kept asking him. So I put a big sign by the laundry basket saying, “Please check your pockets!” It worked, most of the time - he would see it and remember to check, and now it’s an ingrained enough habit that it’s only happened a few times since taking the sign down. (And no, he wasn’t offended by the sign. I asked him if it would be OK if I put it up before I did to help him remember. I think he minded it a lot less than my nagging! ;))

I joked about a sign and he said he wouldn’t mind, but I never get around to it.
I don’t really mind it enough to make a sign, I can accept this little thing about him.

Shirt sleeves? How does she iron his shirts with the sleeves like that?

Wait until you turn 50 socks right side out on a two boys who have a habit of leaving their socks in balls that can’t be cleaned or dried when left that way.

“And so, I decide not to say anything about the sleeves.” Why say anything about his shirt sleeves when she can write about it and post it on the internet?😃

👍

I really never noticed how the sleeves are on my husbands shirts when I wash them.

I do try to remember to check the pockets. Sometimes he’ll leave a business card or receipt.

I never thought of it as cumbersome.

No I wouldn’t worry about it then either. Just sometimes all you have to do is ask. I just can’t imagine how not saying anything is doing him some big favor.

It’s not a favour, it’s just something I don’t have the need to “correct” about him. It takes me a minute or two to take care of it, I turn his stuff inside out or outside in (as necessary) as automatically as he takes them off, it’s not something I even think about. (Unless I find a thread like this. :D)
I told him about it more as part of “Laundry 101” when I was explaining some basics, so he’d know how to do it and why we do it that way (not just because I say so :)) but I don’t take it personally if he doesn’t remember.
I have my little things as well and he accepts them and doesn’t make a fuss.
I feel very blessed that we have no issues with each other bigger than these. 🙂

Noooo I wasn’t talking about you, I was referring to the article.

For me… it’s not the sleeves. We have 6 people in our household and it is all of the inside out or balled up SOCKS that tempts me to impatience.

Thanks everyone… I needed to know that I’m not alone.

You quoted me, so I thought you were talking to me. 🙂
Yes lets just say it was all around bad communication on my part. Here is what I wrote:

*No I wouldn’t worry about it then either. Just sometimes all you have to do is ask. I just can’t imagine how not saying anything is doing him some big favor. *

So yes I was responding to you with the first two sentences and then about the article with the last one. I see how that is confusing. Sorry about that!!

My husband did his clothes and I did mine.

As the children got older, they did their own as well.
