Hello

I am going to date a Catholic and I am unsure how far to take it with her. I understand that Catholics are not meant to french kiss before marriage? I don’t understand how we can not french kiss before marriage  Because then it is more like friends?
Well, there’s nothing wrong at all in actually treating your fiancee as a friend. My mother often tells me that beauty fades, sexual attraction fades, but if you have a solid emotional base (a friendship), that lasts.

You give your friends prolongued kisses on the lips do you? :hmmm: I know I certainly don’t, and I don’t think most people do.

Besides which, the intent and feelings make more of a difference than the act itself.

After all, actors kiss each other on screen and stage all the time. I’m sure they’d tell you a loving kiss from someone they are romantically interested in, even if there is no tongue, is a very different thing altogether!

Most american catholics have sex before marriage, like everyone else. A few have qualms. The first and some of the best sex I ever had was with the love I met at in folk mass back in '75. Wnated to marry her, but no such luck. Is this teaching taken seriously in 2010 by more than 1% of Catholics?

I recomnmend the book Just Love by (Sister) Margeret Farley.

If you really feel this way, you don’t understand what love and marriage is all about. Seriously, get the Christopher West materials I mentioned earlier. It will open your eyes to this great gift, as it did mine. You will look back on your '75 experience with disgust, as you understand how it hurts our Lord.

I’m not sure if you are suggesting that this is an outdated and rediculous teaching. It is not outdated, it is part of Christ’s plan, always was and always will be, and those who want to follow Christ, neet to take it seriously.
