Love is a one way street*** because love is unconditional. God loved us although we rejected Him, were unfaithful to Him and killed Him. When we are nice to some one because they are nice to us, it is not love; because, our niceness is conditional to the other party being nice. Similarly, if we love, only if the other party loves us back, it is not love, because it is conditional. Those who exercise true love, love, because, they love love. In other words, they love, because, they love God who is love. Furthermore, they love God; because, in Jesus they have seen the fullness of God’s love.***
 
nowhere in the bible is it said that God’s love is unconditional!!!

it is conditional on us being a good person and repenting of our sins… he will not punish us as Christ already died for our sins and His death shows that a price had to be paid for our sins…
so it is not unconditional!!!

Could not agree more with you mariam1976. If repentance is required, which it is, than love is not unconditional but conditional upon repentance. There is something sinister going on with people who want to keep on doing what ever they are doing that is sinful without repentance and think that Heaven is waiting for them. Why is there Hell, why is there confession and penance, why is there justice. If we continue to willfully doing sinful things here on Earth and expect to go to Heaven, we must think God is a fool for not caring that we keep on crucifing His son. Many are called to go to Heaven, but only a few will enter. Only the Devil and his human collaborators would want us to think that all is fine, keep on sinning, no need to repent. Unfortunately, there are a lot of good people who believe the falsehood of " God’s unconditional love".:dts: :dts:

I don’t see what repentance has to do with unconditional love. God does not cease to love us because we are unrepentant. His love is not dependant on our response (or non-responsiveness).

I hope that I am misunderstanding. God loves EVERYONE unconditionally. We are the ones who fail to recognize His love and, in turn, repent and return His love (not that we can ever, in this life, love Him as we ought to). I believe the Cure’ of Ars once said that if we could experience for one second how much God loves us, we would die of joy. If the unrepentant (or even just ignorant) knew how much God loved them, they would naturally repent and dedicate the rest of their lives to seeking ways of returning that love.

It was in realizing God’s love that has lead many sinners to the foot of the cross in repentance. Realizing God’s love is what moves us along the path to perfection; there is nothing in this life that is too difficult to bear when it is done for the love of God. That is the stuff that makes saints.

It is not:
Repentance = God’s Love

Repentance is the result of the realization of the reality that God unconditionally loves us. Hell is not prescribed by God for those who are unrepentant. Those who fail to realize and respond to God’s love are choosing damnation. It takes nothing away from God’s unconditional love. He loves us all the way to hell (if that is what we choose).

If only people would recognize the multitude of ways God has revealed His love for us - - - NOTHING in this world could hold them back from seeking to return that love. Nothing.

God’s love is infinite and absolute. The world is so blind. They seek “love” everywhere but “where” It actually is 😦

Oh, I kind of disagree. God’s love is unconditional. He loves us no matter what we do. There is no lack of love in God. God loves the souls in hell. They are just in hell because they failed to return that love. They tore themselves away from the eternal presence of God by their own choice. God does not send us to hell. We send ourselves. We tear ourselves from His orbit and fling ourselves into the abyss with sin. That is not what God wants. He sent His Son to die for us. We just don’t always respond to His love in the way that is best for us.

So in a sense, love IS a one-way street. We just choose in which direction we drive it. Toward Love or away from Love.
 
A few years back, Fr. San Luis, SVD asked his professor from his seminary days about this. His professor (a priest also) said that God’s love is conditional, as we see in the Bible that it is hinged upon acceptance of Christ and repentance of sins. Fr. San Luis wasn’t sure about this; he maintains that God’s love is unconditional. However, he does agree that His justice (Judgment) is confitional.
 
I believe that what is wrong with those who continue in a life of sin is that they never truly realized God’s love to begin with, or never truly appreciated it. They see God’s sacrifice as a ticket to continue in sin and a ticket to heaven.

The only holy response to God’s sacrifice (which was Love in Action!) is to return that love. IOW, God offers unconditional love, and our response should be… LOVE! Those who “accept Christ” and don’t show fruit of their returned love are like leeches. They want something for nothing.

But still, this does not diminish God’s unconditional love for us. The error is in OUR response. Do WE love unconditionally in return? Do we recognize Jesus in our every encounter with humanity? Do we, as Mother Theresa did, see Jesus in the suffering world and return that love?

…and His Mercy is what makes Him Just… More proof of His unconditional love! St. Therese’ said that it is precisely because of His mercy that He is just; that He takes into account our every weaknesses and imperfections.

Contemplating like this can only lead to non-judgementalism. We cannot know how those who appear to choose to continue in sin are seen in God’s eyes.

God’s love and mercy (and “justice”) are incredible!

First, I do not knwon if I am doing things correctly, but I will continue and hopefully someone will inform me if I am not.

It sounds so nice, warm, fussy, and convincing to insist that God’s love is unconditional, and I admire the way the person above expresses his/her feelings on the issue. However, words are just that, no more. Personal feelings are just that, no more.
What I have asked is for proof. Say some specific use of the words “God’s unconditional love”, or any use of the word uncontional as it applies to God’s love for us, from any **official **Church documents – no more no less. Of course, assuming that the translation is accurate and has not been altered by a scribe.

Furthermore, Scripture does not use the word unconditional in any place to describe God’s love for us. It makes much more sense that we should have unconditional love for God for HE created us, and He owes us nothing, but we owe Him everything, for we are the servants and He is the master. In addition, when we do something evil, or are rebellious, and we do not repent God will hates us as He has hated other people in the past.

Finally, even if He always loves us (wich is only wishful thinking), and Hell is our destination because of lack of true repentance, it is of no value (or pleasure) to be there – with or without God’s “unconditional” love.
