Jesus does not look highly at money, saying it is a ‘tainted thing’ (Lk 16: 9, 11).
The Bible nevertheless does have a teaching on it, however in contempt it looks at it.
Basically, we have to involve the principle of honesty at all time in dealing with the issue of money, for the honest shall receive blessing and the one who is honest in all healing for all time to come will not stumble (Ps 112: 2, 5-6).
Dishonesty with regards to money will tarnish our credibility as a witness to Jesus because how then can we be trusted with ‘genuine riches’? What are genuine riches? Obviously they are the things of the Lord that give us peace and joy and ultimately eternal life. That’s why when our own life is not in order especially in the way we corruptly manage our bank account, our preaching becomes useless.
Basically Jesus tells us to use money to win friends (Lk 16: 9). I suppose this means to say any excess other than what’s needed for our basic need, we should give it to the needy and the poor. These will be out true friends for we do not expect anything in return from them.
If we love money, greed will comes in and it will blur our image of the righteous and of Jesus. Rightly that in itself is evil or the root of evil.
