Weak Moment

Pushing away last night’s frustration,
I wake up with a new resolution.
At a weak moment,
my anxiety became intense
and worries crept in.
But today I refuse to give in.
I know my Lord will come with vindication.

Long waiting is a suffering.
When patience stretched,
faith is tested.
But I know You are never late.
Your timing is always great.
I refrain from complaining.
I will stay sustaining.

Bless me at my weak moment,
strengthen me with Your faith.
Help me count all Your blessings,
and recall the rivers you’ve created in the desert.
Take away my doubt,
do not allow my trust waver,
in Your mercy keep me stand fast.

Housekeeping

White kitchen tiles
look neat and clean.
But when I check closer
crumbs are seen,
dirt is revealed in the scene.

Couldn’t that be my heart?
Appearing to be shiny,
but not actually tidy.
In God’s dazzling light
no impurity can hide.

Delay cleansing for long,
things will go wrong.
Regular cleaning
is more pleasing,
and brings easier adjusting.

Either on housekeeping
or soul searching,
be attentive, not slack.
Remove the tiny speck,
try to stay on the right track.

Getting Ready

On that cold winter night,
in the City of David,
Bethlehem was clueless.
The town was not ready.

In the place where travelers lodged,
the innkeeper had no room
for the birth of the King.
The inn was not ready.

When the angel appeared
to the humble shepherds
with the word of “Behold!”
the shepherds were ready.

And the Star appeared
to the wise men,
shed lights upon them,
The Magi were ready.

Moving forward two thousand years,
the King is still coming,
His love is still calling.
Are we ready?

In the heavy shopping traffic,
in the long check-out line,
relaxing at the finished list,
we say we are ready.

But if we remember
all the gifts to get,
and forget the One to greet,
we miss the coming of Christ,
we are not really ready.

Mountain Top
  1. The higher he ascends
    the less he understands,
    because the cloud is dark
    which lit up the night;
    whoever knows this
    remains always in unknowing
    transcending all knowledge.
    - Stanzas concerning an ecstasy experienced in high contemplation,
    St. John of the Cross
The higher the mountain,
the colder the climate.
It leads to a lonely road
a road few traveled.

In the knowing of unknowing,
the unknowing is the only knowing,
where day and day transfer knowledge
night and night exchange wisdom.

In the pitch darkness
there appears the shining light.
So dazzling,
It makes everything blindly dark.

Prevailing is the encompassing comfort.
On the secluded mountain top
the Presence is so intense
that loneliness doesn’t even get a chance.

Joy of Simplicity

The crayons work the magic,
the coloring paper no longer bare,
awe and wonder begin to appear.
The Holy Family looks so dear.

Silent night stands still.
Bright stars shine on the hill.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
peacefully rest and reflect.

Coloring the Nativity scene,
A young child’s face
brightens up from within,
inner delight is seen.

An innocent heart
casts charm on any simplicity.
Returning to purity,
one finds unexpected joy.

Ever Near

Finishing errands,
I rush to see You.
The jammed traffic
makes me restless.

But there comes a message -
no need to hurry.
Yes I know,
You are right here with me.

At a business setting,
or in a shopping place,
alone or in the crowd,
You are ever near.

Talking to You in a whisper,
receiving a smile as a hint,
I enjoy Your togetherness,
You are right here with me.

Nothing is ever boring
neither could any time be wasted.
For as long as I remember,
You are ever near.

It’s comforting to sit
in front of the tabernacle.
But before getting there,
You are already with me.

Amazing God

You are an amazing God,
how can I praise You enough?
Comparing to the entire universe
I am as small as a piece of sand.

Yet You love this sand so much
and care for each detail of its life.
When I think of such amazing grace
I cannot help utter a sigh.

For the sake of my redemption,
You were born in a manger,
died on a Cross,
and resurrected in glory for my eternity.

You fulfill your promise
never leave me as an orphan.
You give me the Eucharist
and Your indwelling Holy Spirit.

Your deliverance continues daily.
Whenever I run to You in repentance
Your forgiveness is awaiting.
You are slow to anger, full of mercy.

How blessed I am!
You are my Savior,
but also my lover, my spouse
and my best friend.

You meet me at where I am.
When I am ready
You hold my hand
and call me to run with you.

You bring me to a higher ground.
Show me the sweetness to collect.
As I drink from your fresh spring,
You reveal another charm for me to chase.

Your grace is forever new.
You even help me respond to it.
My thanksgiving brings new miracles.
A full circle of wonder goes on.

My thirst can never be satisfied in this life.
But even though I cannot see your face,
as long as I know you are with me
I can wait for the eternity.

You are an amazing God,
I can never praise You enough.
All I can do is to keep on praising,
again and again, never stop.

** Prostrate**

In the morning
driving to work
starting a new day,
You are with me.
I am prostrate in my spirit.

At work
solving problems
fulfilling my duty,
You are with me.
I am prostrate in my spirit.

Taking a walk
and praying
in solitude and silence,
You are with me.
I am prostrate in my spirit.

On my way to church
to see the one I am longing for
and having our usual date,
You are with me.
I am prostrate in my spirit.

At the tabernacle
praising and adoring
the Real Presence,
You are with me.
And I am really prostate.

The Love River

There is a love river,
a river with living water,
unimaginably deep
that flows forever.

It comes from the celestial city,
with pure glistening stream
refreshes any parched land
washes away all filth.

Wherever the river flows
all creatures will live.
Its living water
makes everything new.

Flow through me love river!
Pour out your anointing,
immerse me profoundly and thoroughly,
help me spread your grace.

This love river
is a river of mercy,
an eternal blessing
that never stops loving.

Flowing with the river
I may reach the celestial city,
where abundance is unlimited
and salvation fulfilling.

Rainbow

When my daughter was four,
she prayed to see a real rainbow.
To prevent any disappointment,
I told her it was a matter of sooner or later.

Right after my explanation,
rain drops started to fall from the sunny sky,
as a magic, a long rainbow popped up
on the left side of my car window.

The cute little girl smiled at me.
With confidence she said “I just knew it.”
Her innocent faith brought forth a miracle,
teaching me a long lasting lesson.

Another time when I was driving,
the sunny sky started to rain hard.
I silently pleaded for a rainbow,
the Lord asked me for a reason.

“Let it be a confirmation for my prayer.”
Silence, there was a complete silence.
I sensed He was not pleased.
So I said, ”Lord, just because I love You.”

The rain stopped and the sun was shining.
When I turn onto my driveway
with a pastel hue, a short rainbow appeared
right above my own house.

My son and I both watched with awe.
Coming like a dream, leaving like a mist,
the rainbow softly disappeared after our glance.
Then I knew my conversation with the Lord was real.

A rainbow is the bouquet of the sky,
the covenant and promise of God.
The Lord often uses this wonder
to convey messages of love to his children.

Remain In You

“Remain in me
and I will remain in you.”
Lord, remain in me
and let me remain in You.

From morning till night,
from active prayer to passive,
acquired to infused,
I find joy remaining in You.

In crowd or being alone,
traveling or at home,
working or in worship,
I find joy remaining in You.

It is a state of being,
a constant inflow
instills in me
Your holy presence.

Wherever I am
and whatever I do,
with the solitude of my spirit
I remain in You.

Shed Your light on me, Lord!
Guide me.
Uplift my faith,
help me remain in you always.

Pass it On

When the need was announced,
I was compelled to answer.
With a timid but earnest heart
I stepped forward to teaching.

The first teenage year is not easy.
They are often noisy,
showing little motivation or
paying no attention.

But there is no other way out.
Even with frustration,
I have to persist.
Anything worth doing has a price.

God’s work is never easy.
The Gospel has to be spread,
faith ought to be affirmed,
no quitting due to difficulty.

Faith has to be passed on.
Church treasures need to prevail.
Knowing the love of the Real Presence
will help them stand fast, never wavering.

In my weariness,
I pray for grace to continue
and wisdom to communicate,
so faith could be passed on.

I am in awe of this thread. These poems will become part of my daily devotional.

Glance

Before the day was dawning,
we took you to the airport.
The rain was falling in darkness,
a morning after Christmas.

Precious was our time together,
we did not have such a luxury often.
Our hearts were full of sentiment,
none of us said anything.

Going through the security line,
you frequently turned and looked.
Our eyes locked,
you gave me a beautiful smile.

Waving at each other,
I ran passing the crowd to the other side.
When you noticed me through the glass,
I saw that sweet smile again.

Without looking back,
you walked down the terminal.
I started to miss you already,
a mother’s love could never be quenched.

Silently praying all the way home,
I run to my Lord in tears.
Only in Him may I be with my child always.
Prayers know no distance in separation.

Our glance at each other
conveyed the love of our hearts.
Blessings to you, my baby!
I entrust you in the Lord’s continual care.

A New Song

Time flies by
a year has passed.
It is the moment
to look back as well as forward.

In silence I open my heart
and begin my reflection in the Lord.
Shine light upon me,
help me sing a new song.

In all trials during the past year
Your grace was more than abundant.
All tears were wiped
by Your gentle caresses.

My soul is filled with gratitude.
Among the sorrows of life
there is always triumph.
Hope is ever present in longing.

In this coming year
strengthen me, O Lord,
to have fewer worries and more trust,
and remember that You care for our best.

Calm my spirit and tune my listening
help me hear Your still small voice,
rightly discern the calls
and quickly respond to them.

Let me walk by your side,
closely follow your lead.
Bless me with your grace
and the attentive grace to respond.

Make me focus on You alone,
never allow my sight shift.
Keep my love for You burning,
do not allow the heat to subside.

Answer my prayers with great mercy
according to Your holy will.
Bless my family,
help us to model Your Holy family.

Still Water

A serene lake,
hides in the valley of mountains,
surrounded by thousands of trees,
gracefully reflects the splendor of nature.

It is like a mirror,
sunshine glistens on its surface,
blue sky deeply absorbed in,
floating clouds never stir its calmness.

A jumping fish or gentle breeze
only adds joyful ripples
but never interrupts the tranquility.
Falling stones sink without a trace.

In rainy days or stormy weather,
the water may appear murky,
yet it will soon clear up.
No disturbance ever lasts.

“Be still, know that I am God.”
The still water knows it.
Wouldn’t that be nice
if my heart could resemble this lake?

A Smiling Gaze

Early Monday morning
Driving to work on the highway,
recollection of amazing grace came to my mind.
Gratitude overflowed.

God said,
"For I know well the plans I have in mind for you,
plans for your welfare,
not for woe,
plans to give you a future full of hope.”

Looking back to my life,
through the mountains and valleys,
goodness and kindness always followed me.
Word of God is always true.

Oh dear Jesus,
how much you love me,
and how much I am in love with you.
“I am also in love with you.”

Did You say that Lord?
Is that Your still small voice?
Or just my imagination?
In my wondering,
I caught a glimpse of a smiling gaze.

The Divine Melody

There is a song in my heart.
When its melody plays,
I cannot help smile.
Like a refreshing stream,
softly flows through
the field of my soul.
Deep gratitude rises from within,
I am delighted and inspired.
Everything becomes beautiful,
my joy unspeakable.

It is a special song,
without specific tune or lyrics,
played by the greatest musician
who dwells within me all the time.
He touches the strings with love,
plays every note with compassion.
His music gives life,
brings comfort and transformation.
It is a melody of thanksgiving and praise,
led by the dear Spirit.

A Longing Heart

Is a sensitive field
that is soft and tender;
filled with joys.
It also weeps
while being moved.

Is a space that strives to be clean,
to remain simple and pure,
so it may become
a delightful residence
for the Lord it loves so much.

Conversations go on,
between the heart and His Majesty.
Day and night,
they exchange fond glances,
commune with intimacy.

The heart contains a God shaped void
can never be filled except by the Beloved.
For that’s how it was made,
with a constant thirst of yearning
destined to be quenched only by the Divine.

It is the heart’s desire
to be purified, refined and governed,
remaining childlike,
humble and obedient,
so it can carry the Creator’s will.

The heart enjoys solitude and silence,
likes to confess, doing penance.
In the zeal of serving,
God’s peace quietly flows through,
reflecting the fire with love’s longing.
