“Pray to” - I’ve gotten in trouble with that terminology. How about “I ask Mary to pray FOR me?”This Protestant does pray to Mary.

I would join that. Although the name I don’t care for - no offense. It’s kind of funny, but… Anyway, my ‘personal’ title for the Blessed Virgin Mary is “the only woman who has never let me down.”I’m thinking about starting a Group here of men who love Mary, The Blessed Mother.
I want to call it “Momma’s Boys”.

When I say pray I’m refering to communication between me and those in Heaven. Yeah, I know what you are saying. That is correct.“Pray to” - I’ve gotten in trouble with that terminology. How about “I ask Mary to pray FOR me?”Seriously, I know it may not be a “big thing” but lots of Protestants start in on the “to” part - that we are only to pray “to” God and while we can ask others to pray “for” us, we should only pray “to” God and technically they are correct. We ask Mary to pray “for” us “to” Jesus/God. No, I’m not a lawyer, but when you get down to theological terms…people get “picky.”

All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. So well said!!!Well, did you find out historically what most followers of Mohummad taught about apostates? You say I’m focusing on bad and you on the good. But lets get real here. Lets be honest to everyone involved, including Muslims. Do they love the same Mary you do? Do they love the same Mary in the gospels, the mother of Jesus Christ, who spoke in Luke 1:54-55-
**“He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants forever,
even as he said to our fathers.” **
We both know the promises were made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob(Israel), do the Muslims believe this? Mary was an Israelite. She praised God for fulfilling all he spoke of Israel.
Islam today is no friend of Israel. But you say they honor the one who praises God for being merciful to his servant Israel. But will Islam as a whole ever be merciful towards Israel?
Furthermore, it is proven there are those teachers in Islam that teach if a apostate that does not come back to Islam must be killed. Read up what happened when Arabs tried to leave Islam when Muhammad died.
How can Islam’s Mary be the Mary of scripture? How can Islam revere and love Mary more than those that love Jesus Christ as their Lord, Savior, Messiah, etc., when Islam itself does not hold to these beliefs? Actually, Islam denies Jesus is the son of God.
To believe in Jesus is to believe in Mary and all that was spoken of her in the scriptures.
So by saying any non-christian group that holds that Jesus is not the Messiah, the son of God, but claims to love Mary, moreso than those that do say they do believe all the truths of Jesus, is really not saying anything at all.
But not true. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. So well said!!!

5 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. 7 And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
John 3:16 doesn’t seem to mention Mary.Mary had everything to do with it. She gave Jesus His flesh that was prophetically bruised and the very blood He shed was 100% Mary’s because Jesus had no biological father.
But GOD knew that she wouldn’t.Sure…all she had to do was to say “no” to God when Gabriel came to her.
a) you will find no scripture that states Mary gave birth to anybody else but God on earth. When told that Mary would conceive a child her reply wasb) those mentioned as Jesus’ brothers and sisters are His cousins literally.
Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (Meaning I have not had sexual relations.) Right in the beginning of Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not (had sexual relations) till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife (had sexual relations); and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Genesis 4:17 And Cain knew his wife (had sexual relations); and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
Genesis 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again (had sexual relations again); and she bare a son, and called his name Seth.
Kind of a recurring theme here. Why is it so bad that she had more children?? It doesn’t lower my opinion of her. I’ve seen all the arguments on the language used and what the till means but I don’t buy it so don’t waste typing. Not being sarcastic just saving you time.
Thank you.I’m sure you’re not mentioned in The Bible but God holds you in high regard too.
I do have a high regard for Peter. He died proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord and Savior. I think his name is mentioned so much because he liked to talk. He obviously was type A probably like youIf mentions in the Bible is interesting to you, then you must highly regard Peter as his name among all other mere humans comes more than anybody else’s and more than all the other Apostles combined.Of course Catholics use this as one of their arguments for Peter’s primacy. His name is mentioned so much and always first as Catholics say. If Mary is mentioned the least, “yikes” how do you argue that??
Again interesting how the argument applies for Peter’s name not Mary. Nothing to do with Protestant exclusionism. Everything to do with Catholic counting techniques. That’s a Protestant exclusionary point of view.
He also calls anyone who obeys GOD blessed. So are you blessed (insert name), and I’m blessed (my name)? Correct??But from the universal Christian inclusionary point of view, here, Jesus incorporates any man, woman and child that repeats Mary’s example (as she was obedient to God) into His family.
I don’t think he would ever dishonor his Mom.Mary’s importance was never an issue there.
Jesus was stressing obedience to God; He never put down or belittled His own mother. That would be dishonoring her and would be breaking the Commandment that He is to honor His mother.

This is talking about “reconcilliation”, not intercessory prayer.5 For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. 7 And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
In fact, intercessory prayer actually pleases God and it’s in the same passage from which you chose those particular verses:
1 Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;
2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.
No one ever prays to Mary for reconcilliation between them and God (which is the subject of the verses you chose).
What would Mary have to do with John 3:16 in the first place?John 3:16 doesn’t seem to mention Mary.
John 3:16 only talks about God, not Mary.
This however doesn’t mean that Mary “didn’t” give up her only begotten Son as well and it doesn’t state that she “didn’t” give up her only begotten Son.
Mary isn’t mentioned in a lot of passages.
But she was mentioned in two important passages…she was there before Jesus birth and was there at His death.
Because she was full of grace. She was perfect therefore, she could perfectly obey God without question. Her blessedness is compared to Jesus’ level of blessedness. But GOD knew that she wouldn’t.
When told that Mary would conceive a child her reply was
Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (Meaning I have not had sexual relations.) Right in the beginning of Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not (had sexual relations) till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.No where there does it say that Mary and Joseph had sex. It states that Joseph didn’t touch Mary up until she gave birth, but doesn’t say that they had sex afterwards.Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife (had sexual relations); and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Not only that, the Bible doesn’t even say that they actually got married (only that they were engaged).
So sex wouldn’t have been manadatory between the two.
That is “if” we’re going only by what is actually written in The Bible.
It wouldn’t be bad. It would even be proper (if there was proof that they were actually married).Kind of a recurring theme here. Why is it so bad that she had more children?? It doesn’t lower my opinion of her. I’ve seen all the arguments on the language used and what the till means but I don’t buy it so don’t waste typing. Not being sarcastic just saving you time.
But the fact is that no where in The Bible does it state that Jesus had brothers (the original aramaic language used the same word for both brother and cousin, plus, the mother of those mentioned as Jesus’ brothers were literally told by scripture as Mary’s relative (sister). She was named as the mother of those that were called Jesus’ brothers.
Simple, Peter’s Primacy (for me) isn’t proven by how many times he’s mentioned. I’m sure the word “the” is mentioned thousands of times in the Bible.I do have a high regard for Peter. He died proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord and Savior. I think his name is mentioned so much because he liked to talk. He obviously was type A probably like youOf course Catholics use this as one of their arguments for Peter’s primacy. His name is mentioned so much and always first as Catholics say. If Mary is mentioned the least, “yikes” how do you argue that??
No, Jesus told Peter to literally shepard His followers and in Matthew 16:18, told him that He’d build His Church upon Peter (literally “rock”).
Again, not for me or for any legitimate Catholic Apologist.Again interesting how the argument applies for Peter’s name not Mary. Nothing to do with Protestant exclusionism. Everything to do with Catholic counting techniques.
All one has to do is to read the Bible and see that Peter is always mentioned first when Church business is being done.
The fact that Peter is mentioned more than all the other Apostles is a way to counter Protestant’s beliefs that Peter wasn’t special of The Apostles, that Paul was more important (which kind of undoes what Jesus did in John 21).

No one is calles as blessed as Jesus, but Mary. Only Mary is compared to Jesus when called blessed.
Ok…I don’t think he would ever dishonor his Mom.

The main thing that Protestants can’t understand is that there is a difference between loving someone and worshiping them.I made the statement that Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than Protestants do. For this, I was called presumtuous.
I’d like to give Protestants a format to defend themselves against my statement.
Now, I can’t speak for Muslims in detail, but I know that they love and revere Mary. They even have an entire book of the Koran devoted to her. I’ll hope that a Muslim can enlighten us all (and if neccessary, correct me if I’m wrong on what I believe they feel for her) on how their faith sees Mary, the mother of Jesus.
As for Catholics, I can’t speak for every last Catholic, but generally speaking, we love her. We have no issues with veneration of Mary. We see her as our mother (as Jesus is our brother through our common Father Who is God, The Father).
We ask her to pray for us.
We defend her when others belittle her or impune her reputation.
We are jealous for her image to the world and guard it against misrepresentations.
We praise her.
We mention her regularly.
We have always felt this way, since the beginning of Christianity.
Former Catholics who’d go on to be the church fathers of the Protestant Reformation also venerated Mary (Luther, Calvin, Zwigli, etc…).
The non-veneration of Mary was created post Reformation by anti-Catholic Protestants and is a relatively new practice having only been employed during the last 400 years.
But for 2,000 years, Christianity has loved and revered the woman who gave up her only born Son so that man would be saved.
We are grateful to her.
Jesus, Who is The Life, came through her womb, therefore, our eternal Salvation Who is Christ came through her womb…her womb gave us life…just like a mother does to any child born naturally.
Scripture calls anybody who follows Christ the children of the woman who gave birth to Jesus Christ (Revelations 12:17).
So, we love her as Jesus Himself loved her…as our own mother.
Catholics, if you can add onto what I said or just want to offer your own words and/or corrections, by all means please do.
Non-Catholic Christians, the question is to you…am I wrong to assert that Catholics and Muslims love and revere and hold Mary in higher esteem than you do?
If so, I welcome your explanation & correction because I would love to be wrong about this one. I really would. I would really like to know that you consider Mary (as The Scriptures tell us) the mother of all Christians and that you love her even more than Muslims do.
Of course, we can all define for ourselves what love is and just so that there’s no confusion, I’ve listed what I believe Catholics feel for Mary as a common faith (and can be corrected by Catholics if need be).
Do Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than non-Catholic Christians?
Amen. The main thing that Protestants can’t understand is that there is a difference between loving someone and worshiping them.
-We love and venerate St. Mary.
-We don’t worship St. Mary.
-We only worship God.

It’s true false accusations.Amen.
I think that most of the non-venerating Protestants aren’t dumb. They are just stubborn and closed hearted.
So what do they do to justify “not” loving Mary as much as Muslims do and as much as the overwhelming majority (at least 85%) of Christians do?
The try to say that we worship her.
And that causes an uncomfortable feeling that is really unneccessary.
I say a lot of stupid things to push buttons, but I never ever insulted a persons faith or made accustations that I knew were false.
When they do this to us, it reminds me of my own faults.
This is talking about “reconcilliation”, not intercessory prayer.
In fact, intercessory prayer actually pleases God and it’s in the same passage from which you chose those particular verses:
1 Timothy 2
1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;
2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.
Sorry this had to be in 2 postsNo one ever prays to Mary for reconcilliation between them and God (which is the subject of the verses you chose).
She still had no choice. Jesus was born to die. It’s not like she said here take his life so the world can be saved. That’s what GOD did. What would Mary have to do with John 3:16 in the first place?
John 3:16 only talks about God, not Mary.
This however doesn’t mean that Mary “didn’t” give up her only begotten Son as well and it doesn’t state that she “didn’t” give up her only begotten Son.
Mary isn’t mentioned in a lot of passages.
As I would expect. Isn’t it interesting that John was the only Apostle there? Where was Peter? But she was mentioned in two important passages…she was there before Jesus birth and was there at His death.
I think that’s an interpretation and not a statement of fact. How does full of grace get equated with sinless. I think that given Jesus was born in a manger, a most imperfect place among the lowliest of low populations, the shepherds, shows me that GOD was sending HIM here under imperfect conditions. In fact we see all throughout the Bible that the people GOD chose to do some of HIS greatest work were less than stellar in character. The Apostles themselves were questionable in character. But this is what makes GOD so brilliant. Someone you would least expect ends up doing the greatest thing. Why would Mary be different?Because she was full of grace. She was perfect therefore, she could perfectly obey God without question. Her blessedness is compared to Jesus’ level of blessedness.
No it says he knew her not until she had Jesus. What does knew her not. Just prior to that we read that when Joseph came out of his dream he took Mary as his wife but knew her not until Jesus was born. What else could that possibly mean. They resumed normal marital relations. No where there does it say that Mary and Joseph had sex. It states that Joseph didn’t touch Mary up until she gave birth, but doesn’t say that they had sex afterwards.
1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.Not only that, the Bible doesn’t even say that they actually got married (only that they were engaged).
Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not (had sexual relations) till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.So sex wouldn’t have been manadatory between the two.
That is “if” we’re going only by what is actually written in The Bible.
It wouldn’t be bad. It would even be proper (if there was proof that they were actually married).
For 2 of them you are correct. James and Joses I believe?? But what about the others??But the fact is that no where in The Bible does it state that Jesus had brothers (the original aramaic language used the same word for both brother and cousin, plus, the mother of those mentioned as Jesus’ brothers were literally told by scripture as Mary’s relative (sister). She was named as the mother of those that were called Jesus’ brothers.
I just see it used as an argument frequently.Simple, Peter’s Primacy (for me) isn’t proven by how many times he’s mentioned. I’m sure the word “the” is mentioned thousands of times in the Bible.
But Peter repeats this in his letter. He refers to himself as a fellow elder then encourages his fellow elders to shepherd the flock. No, Jesus told Peter to literally shepard His followers and in Matthew 16:18, told him that He’d build His Church upon Peter (literally “rock”).
Again, not for me or for any legitimate Catholic Apologist.
Apologists can be wrong. All one has to do is to read the Bible and see that Peter is always mentioned first when Church business is being done.
I don’t say Paul is more important. They’re both great leaders. The fact that Peter is mentioned more than all the other Apostles is a way to counter Protestant’s beliefs that Peter wasn’t special of The Apostles, that Paul was more important (which kind of undoes what Jesus did in John 21).
Where???No one is calles as blessed as Jesus, but Mary. Only Mary is compared to Jesus when called blessed.
