The only thing that is in the heart is blood–A, AB. B, O & RH.
777…I am sorry…If that is all you think is in the heart then I am very sorry for you. I happen to believe in the goodness in the hearts of others. You know I think that those who take this that literally are also those who struggle with faith because they can’t accept that tug at our hearts telling us to believe they try to reason it out with their brains and miss the joy that having faith brings…just a thought

But in shooting dead a person like that, you also in the process, deny him/her a chance to repent, to allow that person to die in sin.
True, but according to CCC I get to say it was his fault, not mine, that he lost his life when he did. Therefore, in a strict sense, I did not “deny” him anything except to the degree that I acted to prevent his “denying” me of the same, which I consider a greater evil.

Lest that last comment sound flippant, it is based on CCC 2264 which reads in part, “Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow:”

So yes the aggressor loses a chance to repent, but I am not guilty of murder in denying him it. Hopefully he will be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Loving one another means recognizing that everyone has an equal opportunity to be loved by God. Many petty annoyances can keep us from this reality. That said, there is no place in Scripture that asks us to accept or chase after evil doers who try to harm others. In fact, many places in the Bible tell Gods people to “drive them out”. We are allowed to mistrust, move away, drive out, etc, those who embrace evil, the only thing we cannot do is deny them the opportunity to recieve God’s mercy: ie, condemn them. Death is not the final solution, judgement is, and it is completely up to God, not us.
If you look at the parable of the prodigal son, the father did not go out after the son, and he let him go away to do his evil deeds. Clearly, he did not stop loving him, and most likely prayed for his conversion. But it is the REFORMED son he welcomes back, stating that he was dead, and is now alive; once lost, now found.
IMHO we need to pray for those who are dead and lost, but keep them at arm’s length for the sake of the common good. We must always hold out hope for them, and work to save others from a terrible fate by spreading God’s word, holding out the opportunity for mercy and recognizing that we cannot save everyone: the choice is theirs alone, as the final judgement is God’s.
