I have almost all the symptoms, and I’ve known for awhile. The worst right now is chronic fatigue. I mentioned the thyroid possibility to my doctor, but the tests came back negative. Does anyone know how I can find a doctor who will look into this?
Educate yourself on current research and nag your doc for a referral. Some of the hypothyroid support sites have informal lists of docs known to listen and treat based on symptoms (like a doc would for any other disorder). If your doc just ran a TSH level, he only tested for something that only applies in one of several causes of hypothyroid symptoms, and probably used the old test ranges that themselves had little to no scientific basis.

My generally very low BBTs were found to be from my PCOS. Thyroid checked out OK, but all my other hormones were a mess. You should get checked by a Reproductive Endocrinologist, or at least a Creighton trained doctor. Regular doctors, even OBs, don’t have a clue. I learned that the hard way.
Turns out this was my issue too. I got tested and tested and tested again for thyroid issues (every which way…I have a HIlgers trained NFP doc) and it was always fine. Then finally, after 3 babies, some painful anovulatory cycles and lots of charts, some more pointed bloodwork and voila! we find that I must have PCOS.

If you think you could possibly have a thyroid or adrenal problem, even if your test were “normal” go to

www.stopthethyroidmadness.com

I have learned so much there, and it that information has changed my life.
