The priest in my parish has his dog wait in the sacristy whenever he celebrates mass.
As I recall, the priest had a golden retriever. I think they’re special. Now my dog would have to be put beyond the wailing wall where he would grind and gnash his teeth … especially if the wailing wall has a window with a view.

I would adopt him in a heartbeat. Then I’d speak to the Priest about still bringing him to Mass.

What strike me was how gentle yet protective he looks and comes across as a protector of the Altar .it like he belongs there .
🙂

Let us not read too much. Of course the dog was faithful to its owner and it may have some feeling about missing the owner. But let us not interprete that animals have soul or the dog is praying for its owner. Let us have our christian views , not diluted.

Animals do have a soul, just not like ours.

I think our human brains can ever come close to knowing everything and we might be surprised at how much we misinterpeted things…we are imperfect. I know God lovers all animals and if he wishes, being God, he can do absolutely anything, no matter what a human being says, save a soul we think is in hell, so many things. Comfort while on earth thinking they can look at a beloved pet again is harmless, trying to take that away is energy best spent elsewhere.

@Nishkalank.
It’s not that our faith is Diluted as you seem to want to point out ,but it is the example a mere animal show … obedience , respect, loyalty and love. Is that is not what our Heavenly Father asks of us each day!!! and yet we at time finds it so difficult to do it ,So instead look at the bigger picture here if we can be like that animal to show obedience to God will for us here on earth ,be loyal and willing to serve and love our Lord the way HE loves us ,and to do as HE has commanded us …we would understand and accept our roles in live and what God desire from us .
Go on read the article again ,the parish priest says that when the bell rings he goes in sit quietly before the altar and waits ,what do we do simply the opposite if we can be like this how much better our relationship with God would be …
Makes you think does it not .😦

There is no need to read too much about the dog’s attendance in church. It is possible some animals specially dogs may have some feeling of closeness and love towards the master. But let us not go further in suggesting existence of soul for animals or heaven for them etc etc. It will be unchristian. God made man as above everything he created. Plants and animals are created for the men ( men include women) and asked him to rule the earth.

A moving tribute from this poor dog. How we treat these poor creatures - the invisible, the vulnerable, the inarticulate and trusting - while on earth is a measure of how far we have come, as individuals and as a society, in conforming our will to God’s desire for our compassion.

I love dogs as much as anyone else here, but considering the other thread about the liturgy, does a dog belong at the Mass?
I’m not sure from the pictures of the dog, but I’m thinking animal companion like a trained seeing-eye dog or the like. I knew a man once who was blind who had one Seeing-Eye dog which would actually stand and sit as appropriate during Mass (since dogs aren’t really capable of kneeling in the same way humans are).

What a beautiful story. Made a very stressful day seem a little brighter.

Please read Genesis - animals do have souls. Anyway, all love is God’s - no matter in what form.
