LSD: Is individuality an illusion?

Yes but all of us who used LSD and had some mind-blowing experiences aren’t using it now, right? It’s not something anyone would want to make a habit of, unless you were Timothy Leary, who actually turned out pretty nutty in the end.
Woah woah woah! I’m not advocating LSD use, much less an LSD habit. My personal feelings on the drug and the legality, morality, or wisdom of using it are completely beside the point. All I’m saying is that if further research into the human brain and how these drugs impact it was to reveal that the altered perception and state of consciousness is simply a different way to experience reality rather than a drug-induced illusion, my entire worldview would change.

I guess when it comes down to it, my question would be:

Which one is reality?

The brain of normal, everyday life that’s activity is very restrictive and creates a sense of self and external reality?

…or…

The brain on LSD or other psychadelic techniques that makes almost the entire brain active and causes a sense of “one-ness” and pantheism?
Let’s suppose you are observing the guy who has taken the drug, and you hear him saying that he and the tree in front of him are one. Then you take an electrical saw and start cutting a branch of the tree. I guess he will report that you, the saw, the tree and him are just one. Do you think he will have the bodily sensation that part of him is being cut by another part of him? Would you agree that you and him are the same thing?

I have not used it in over 20 yrs, but I did read something recently where they were doing testing with LSD and some of the findings were very positive in treating some mental conditions.

Its kind of like why drug laws were originally created, it had nothing to do with how dangerous or deadly they were, there were other reasons why laws against their use were put in place, the same thing happens today too.

Usually drug laws are put in place because there is a very high illegal tax-free market for it, not for the safety of its users. LSD was used medically in the 50’s and 60’s but I doubt that it was very effective as a medicine. I know Cary Grant used it under a psychologist’s supervision, and other Hollywood actors, as well as Ken Kesey, who took place in CIA experiments with the drug in Menlo Park, CA…

LSD is no magic bullet. It’s a hallucinogenic drug, just like mushrooms or peyote. Yes, it induces a different state of consciousness, but I don’t think it is bringing anyone nearer to the Divine.

Would you still use LSD today if it were legal? I would not. The handful of experiences I had with it in my 20s were enough for me.
